The annual rankings assist parents—in consultation with their children’s doctors—in finding exceptional pediatric care, whether for serious illness, a high-stakes surgery, or complex medical needs. Children’s hospitals awarded a “Best” designation excelled at factors such as clinical outcomes, compliance with established best practices, and level and quality of hospital resources directly related to patient care.

It's that time of the year again! 🌀 As we enter another hurricane season, it is time to start pulling thing together essentials in case disaster strikes. Are you ready? Let's gear up together and create an emergency kit, inclusive of the best supplies for you and your little ones! 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Here is a list of items to include in your hurricane emergency kit (screenshot or save for later):
✅ Blanket
✅ Change of clothes for each member of the family
✅ First aid kit—make sure to include pain relievers, fever reducers, and 7 days worth of any prescription medications. Make sure all prescriptions are in the bottle or you have a screenshot of the prescription information in case you need to refill.
✅ Essential toiletries including toothpaste and soap
✅ 3-day supply of water for each member of your family
✅ 3-day supply of nonperishable food items for each member of your family
✅ 3-day supply of diapers and other baby supplies
✅ Pet supplies including food and leashes
✅ Sun protection (think sunscreen, hats, light long sleeved gear)
✅ Hand sanitizer
✅ Bug spray
✅ Extra batteries
✅ Portable chargers
✅ Battery-operated radio
✅ Flashlights and lanterns
✅ Lighters, matches, or candles
✅ Paper map
✅ Emergency contact list
✅ Spare keys
✅ Copies of important personal information: medication list, proof of address deed/lease to home, passports, birth certificates, insurance policies, etc.

For 70 years, we have proudly served as Louisiana’s only, freestanding, comprehensive children’s hospital with more than 600 pediatric-trained providers and 3,000 employees solely dedicated to the care of kids. In addition to comprehensive services offered at its main campus in New Orleans, Children’s operates a robust network of more than 30 satellite locations, pediatric affiliations across Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and robust and long-serving community programs designed to meet the health needs of the diverse communities we serve.

Key’Oir Collins was a busy, happy toddler who loved singing, reading storybooks, and chasing the family dogs. Doctors discovered she had been living with severe coarctation of the aorta, a heart defect that narrows the body’s largest artery and makes the heart work much harder. It had gone undetected since birth.

Her mom, Karlisha, was shocked. “She was such an active little girl. I never imagined there could be something wrong with her heart.”

Here at Manning Family Children’s, pediatric interventional cardiologist Dr. Alexandru Firan offered a newer option. The Renata Minima stent is built specifically for small children and can be expanded as they grow. Key’Oir became the first child in Louisiana to receive one. The procedure took about an hour, she went home the next day, and she avoided surgery—and families like Key'Oir's no longer have to leave home to receive this specialized congenital heart care!

Today, Key’Oir is back to singing, reading, and keeping her mom on her toes. 💙

📺 Peyton made national news! 📺

Last night, @nbcnightlynews shared the story of 11-year-old Peyton, who recently celebrated a major milestone with a true New Orleans-style celebration at Manning Family Children’s. 🎺🎉

Peyton came to us from Gulfport, MS, in February 2024, where our nationally ranked Cancer and Blood Disorders team diagnosed him with a rare genetic mutation causing an autoimmune deficiency. His only hope for a cure was a transplant, and his brother Acie stepped up as a perfect match.

Exactly one year after his life-saving transplant, Peyton rang the bell, surrounded by his family and the care team who have become like family along the way. Next up for Peyton: being a kid again, playing basketball, and chasing big dreams.

Peyton, all of Louisiana and Mississippi are cheering for you, and now the whole country is too!
