Back in June, I participated in @sltwtrartgallery's "250" exhibition. The overarching premise was imagining an alternate timeline in which Black, Brown and Indigenous people were allowed to flourish without the barriers of colonization, slavery and oppression.

I opted to explore my relationship with the American flag in a series of photos. I took inspiration from multiple sources, including @gordonparksfoundation, @shepreebright and @ghostfacekillah.

The audio in this post is from James Baldwin's 1963 "The Negro and the American Promise."

I created six images for this exhibition, "Terms of Citizenship" and it will be on display until September 13.

This Fourth of July commemorates the 250th year of this nation's independence from British rule. The whoms and whats of which people were not free at this time are not lost upon me and I will always carry that with me.
