A little collection of selfies and behind the scenes shots from last week’s gig at Grace Cathedral. Lots of fun places to explore in this building while working. Solid crew of folks and an amazing venue to boot, hard to beat.

Still waiting for the handle to be delivered, but otherwise this gate is done. I’ve got lots of thoughts and opinions about cnc machines in a wood shop, but using the Shaper tool to rough out the pattern on these panels really made the job go faster. Once the initial pattern was set, the details were flushed out with a chisel…so much carving. The star pattern was inspired by some Moroccan tile that was used on the interior of the house.

Realized I never got around to posting finished photos of this project. I’d been wanting to do a bold kitchen like this for years, so I was excited when this client was open to the ebonized oak cabinets. The antiqued mirror behind the bar was a fun touch, and the fluting on the island end panels add a fun element to the whole thing. We got the fluting by using this wild trick where you run a board at an angle across the table saw…it creates that dished out cut. I’ll have to post a video of that sometime so y’all can have a visual.

Got to revisit a bookshelf we made about 15 years ago. The client is selling their house in Oakland and wanted to take the piece with them to their next home. This unit was designed around these pillars (they may have been columns in their past life) that had been collecting dust in the client’s basement for a couple decades. It was fun to see how the wood had aged over the years, nice way to wrap up the week.

Got to spend the weekend, with some buddies, in and around Bishop. I’ve never found myself in Bishop in a non rock climbing capacity, and thus never would’ve seen some of the areas we explored this weekend. Found our way up to the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest where some of these trees are well over 4,000 years old. by @manofaction
