🎬 Closing out the Detroit Black Film Festival!

I had the opportunity to catch up with Jonathan Jones during the Closing Ceremony of the Detroit Black Film Festival!

After several days of celebrating Black filmmakers, actors, writers, producers, and creatives, the Closing Ceremony was the perfect way to wrap up an incredible festival. We talked about their experience, their work, and what’s next.

Check out my conversation with @manofstandardoo7 and keep supporting independent Black film and the talented creatives bringing these stories to life.

April 6, 1981 is by far one of my favorite days in history. Why? Because it's the day the world met the phenomenon that is Sealoyd Jones III! If you've been blessed enough to be in his presence, you understand that you've never experienced that level of authentic love, kindness, and realness. I've never known this life without him, and even when we're getting on each other's nerves, I wouldn't trade a second. My brother by birth, my best friend by choice. He is a mentor, a confidant, an advocate, a supporter, and that just only begins to scratch the surface. Life has had one challenge after another, yet his faith never waivers, his commitment never falters, his kindness can never be questioned. Thank you Lord for seeing fit to bless this world with such a true man after your own heart. So again I say, REJOICE! Have the most magically splendid, amazingly SUPERFANTASTIC day imaginable ✨️💙✨️💛✨️!!!! by @manofstandardoo7

HAPPY 313 DAY, DETROIT!
#In March, we celebrate Women’s History Month and what better way to celebrate than to get tickets to our upcoming Third Thursday experience on March 19th featuring local performers like @angeladavisent and @johdiofficial, enjoy a cash bar (21+), breathe deeply, embrace joy, and be reminded that rest is not a luxury, it’s essential.

We also know March celebrates National Reading Month and our Museum Store invited a special guest reader, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (@gewhitmer), to spend time with our children here in Detroit. Only problem is …. well, you see… there’s a lot of problems. But one thing you’ve got to know is that we don’t play about educating our children!!

The journey to becoming a man is one that will likely never be fully complete. It is filled with side tracks, missteps, failed attempts, and heartache. It's not a road that everyone can walk, and even fewer that succeed. When you have strong examples, however, it gets a little easier. In 1947, Meet the Press debuted, Ghandi began the March for Peace, and Jackie Robinson became the first black person in Major League Baseball. But for all that, the greatest thing to happen in 1947 was that the Lord saw fit to bless this world with the greatest example I could imagine, my father. I'm so humbled and grateful to have had him as my father, friend, coach, guide, and support.

Today would've been your 79th birthday. Though there may never be a biopic about how much you loved, laughed, contributed to the world, and impacted everyone you encountered, I know the world is better place because you existed. I miss you every single day of my life, and I hope Sealoyd and I continue to make you proud. Happy birthday daddy🤴🏾. Love you forever and beyond 💙🤍💙🤍💙!!!
