POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
This morning @jackiecbates sent me a message saying that my article was the cover for the Sunday Opinion of the @nytopinion @nytimes I’m moved to see how Jackie and her team opened so many doors for the stories of the missing of Mexico to be heard all over the world.
Later, @vanessamobleynyc sent me an email saying that the essay “was shining”. Indeed, it was shining thanks to the hard work of the wonderful people who worked in piece: @patricianieto @shoshanaaaaa @jessiamama Rose Adams, Derek Arthur, @carole_sabouraud , @rebchew , among others. I am honored to have worked with all of them. Thank you for putting your trust in my work. Today, I’m beyond happy.

@omarlazarogarcia and me started documenting pollution in the indigenous region of the Totonacapan four years ago. Today, photos from this project, along with a text written by Omar were published by @nytimes. Thanks to @jackiecbates who did the photo editing for this essay.

This work is a chapter of my long-term project A Solid Home.

In 2006, the Mexican government announced war on its country’s drug cartels. Since then, over 130,000 Mexican civilians have been disappeared. The government's response has been muted at best, often choosing to ignore or downplay the severity of the situation.

Today we're highlighting the Foam Talent Runner-up Manuel Bayo Gisbert (@manuelbayogisbert) who works across photography and film, developing projects that explore identity, memory, and the echoes of violence in society.

Here are two more images from A Solid Home that were published online by @foam_magazine.

First image: Outside M.L.’s house. Puebla, Puebla.

Second image: Andrés. In 1973, he was forced to serve Mexican army soldiers during the siege of his town, San Juan de las Flores, when hundreds of troops illegally occupied it. The authorities accused the residents of supporting the guerrilla led by Lucio Cabañas. In addition to the cases of forced labor, approximately 30 residents of the town were illegally arrested and remain missing. by @manuelbayogisbert

When I was 19, my friend @lalovarelav gifted me a copy of FOAM Magazine. It was the first time I had seen a publication fully dedicated to photography.

Nine years later, it feels nice to be among what FOAM describe as “30 artists shaping the future of photography.”
