PROJECT LADYLAND 2026

Project Ladyland was more than a theatre production for us at Urukku.Bangladesh. It was an opportunity to step into a process to learn, experiment and collaborate with creatives who genuinely cared about the process of rethinking our footprints.

We are grateful to HerStory Foundation for inviting Urukku.Bangladesh to be part, and lead the production’s arts, backstage and props team.

Working alongside so many incredible artists, we explored how theatre and production could be made while minimizing our carbon footprints—through reusing existing and discarded materials, rethinking what a prop can be, and making together with what we already have.

Together, we questioned how gender and power shape our lived realities and how social systems sustain them, using the stage as a live experiment to ask audiences and society to imagine more equal and just ways of living.

And honestly, we had so much fun along the way—laughter, chaos, learning and friendship. Huge shoutout to our amazing volunteers for being so helpful throughout the journey! ❤️

For us, Ladyland became a beautiful journey of learning, growth and collective power. We are grateful to everyone who trusted our process, made space for experimentation and shared this journey with us.

SHALA_Neighbourhood Art Space is pleased to announce its collaboration with Manzoor Real under the SHALA_ARTIST COLLAB program.

SHALA_ARTIST COLLAB is an initiative by SHALA Neighbourhood Art Space that offers artists, curators, and art practitioners year-long access to the gallery, resources, communities, and professional networks, while fostering research, experimentation, and future possibilities. As part of the program, Manzoor Real will have our gallery, curatorial and managerial support to conduct research, engage with the public, produce and exhibit works, collaborate with artists and partners, and to explore beyond.

Real will research puppetry, develop stories, puppet shows and engage with the audience and puppetry communities through this program and have a target of an annual event by the end of the program.

Manzoor Real is a Dhaka based artist and storyteller from Bangladesh. He completed his Master’s degree in Drama and Dramatics from Jahangirnagar University. His speciality lies in creating artworks from found materials. Thus, his practice combines puppetry, visual storytelling, and everyday materials to create imaginative narratives. He has worked on creative projects including stop-motion commercials and now conducts workshops for children, encouraging creativity and imaginative thinking, where participants use recycled and upcycled materials to create puppets and other artworks. He had his first solo exhibition Pil Pil Choli at SHALA_Neighbourhood Art Space in 2025. by @manzoorreal

Urukku.Bangladesh is coming to Shishu Poribohon s "Duo art session" where parents and kids or any duo can participate together. We will do a kids friendly shadow puppetry workshop where you can develop your own story utilising discarded paper. The Workshop will be for two hours.

Registration : link in bio / you may also register on the spot in early appearance basis.
Registration fee: 500 taka per duo

Manzoor Real’s solo exhibition পিল পিল চলি presented a subtle yet evocative vision of a parallel urban ecosystem, where tiny hybrid creatures took shape from discarded plastics, bent metal, bottle caps, and other overlooked materials of the city. Held from 18 to 27 December, between 4:00 PM and 9:00 PM, at Shala Neighborhood Art Space, Aloki, the exhibition invited viewers to look again at what is often ignored—the quiet presence of insects in art, the hidden beauty within waste, and the resilience embedded in discarded materials. Through these sculptural forms, the exhibition blurred the boundary between the organic and the manufactured, encouraging a renewed reflection on life, materiality, and urban neglect.

মঞ্জুর রিয়েল-এর একক প্রদর্শনী পিল পিল চলি সমাপ্তির পথে, শেষ দিন ২৭ ডিসেম্বর।

ফেলে দেওয়া প্লাস্টিক, বাঁকা লোহা, বোতলের ঢাকনা ও শহরের উপেক্ষিত উপাদান থেকে জন্ম নেওয়া এই প্রদর্শনী এক সমান্তরাল নগরজগতের ছবি তুলে ধরে—যেখানে ক্ষুদ্র হাইব্রিড প্রাণীরা আমাদের বর্জ্য, টিকে থাকা, খেলাধুলা ও সহাবস্থানের প্রশ্নের মুখোমুখি করে। এখানে শিল্প আর জীবনের মধ্যে কোনো স্পষ্ট বিভাজন নেই; দৈনন্দিন অভ্যাস, কৌতূহল ও যত্ন থেকেই শিল্প নিজে নিজেই জন্ম নেয়।

আলোচনা, গল্প , সুর ও সম্মিলিত উপস্থিতির মধ্য দিয়ে এই নগরজগতের ভেতর আরেকবার একত্রিত হওয়ার আমন্ত্রণ রইল।

Manzoor Keal's solo exhibition brings together a parallel urban ecosystem - tiny hybrid creatures shaped from discarded plastics, bent metal, bottle caps, and the overlooked materials in the city.

পিল পিল চলি invites viewers to look again at what is often ignored: the quiet presence of insects in art, the beauty hidden in waste, and the resilience embedded in overlooked materials. The sculptures ask us to reconsider the boundary between the organic and the manufactured, between life and the objects we discard.
