This Saturday, Maple plays its first show. Before we do, I wanted to share a little about this project and what it means to me. I moved to Dallas in May of 2023. It was a brand new city, and aside from my girlfriend, I didn’t really know anyone. Since graduating from college, I’ve been working remotely, and over the past few years it’s honestly been difficult to build friendships and find a sense of community. I’m incredibly grateful for the people I have met along the way, but there were definitely times when I felt isolated. Music had been absent from my life for a long time. My first band was back in high school with some of my closest childhood friends, and for years I genuinely thought music was what I would do for the rest of my life. But as college, work, and adulthood took over, that dream slowly faded. For a while, I honestly never thought I’d pick up a guitar again. It wasn’t until about a year after moving to Dallas that I finally dusted off my instruments and started playing again. At first, it was simply a creative outlet and a way to meet people. Through music, I met some incredible friends and became part of a community that I’m grateful to have found. I was involved in a few different projects that ultimately didn’t work out, mostly because of my own shortcomings, but each one reminded me how much I loved making music. Even then, I still felt like something was missing. I wanted a space to create something that felt completely honest. A way to process my experiences, my grief, and the loneliness I had been carrying. Cont. by @mapledtx
