I couldn’t express in the photos how much receptive and lovely Edinburgh people are. Content that I could have this exceptional experience but also sad knowing the culture language and good traditions are dying with time. Thank you Edinburgh, Scotland! X I will come back!

What if I told you that my DNA test showed that I am 7% Irish, Scottish and Welsh?

Now, whether that is actually true, I don’t know. But it made me curious, so I went deeper. I wanted to learn about the history and discover the true roots of the Scottish people.

And I felt privileged to be in a place with so much cultural richness.

Being there made me realise how easily people can lose their sense of identity. They don’t know where they come from. They don’t know their roots. They don’t know their own history. And sometimes, they have been made to believe in a version of their past that isn’t necessarily the whole truth.

Being in the Highlands made me realise that where you come from can say so much about who you are.

Travelling around the world and seeing it through so many different perspectives, as a Brazilian woman, I can say that I am deeply grateful and incredibly fortunate to be free to experience the world in a way I could never have imagined.

What I learned on this journey was not only about the places and the people I met. It was also about something I carry within me: my roots, my archetypes, and the things that have been passed down through generations.

And I realised that no one can completely erase your identity.

Who you are.
Where you come from.
Your roots.
Your culture.
Your way of loving people and things.
The way you were raised.

Nothing can simply erase that.
Not wars.
Not colonisation.
Not the passing of time.
Many people forget. Or perhaps they have been disconnected from their roots for so long that they no longer know who they are.

But even when ways of life change and generations pass, sometimes you can find yourself in a place connected to your history, a place where you feel some kind of connection — and suddenly, something comes back to you.

It feels almost like a spiritual awakening.
Something inside you recognises something missing.

And I only have one thing to say: If you have the opportunity to travel, travel now.

We don’t know how long borders will remain open. We don’t know what tomorrow may bring.
So live your life as if it were your last day.
And discover who you truly are. #scotland #scottishhighlands #outlander taken in Glencoe, Scottish Highlands by @mara_carva
