"And then the rains came. They came down from the hills and up from the sound. And it rained a sickness. And it rained a fear. And it rained an odor. And it rained a murder. And it rained dangers and pale eggs of the beast. Rain poured for days, unceasing. Flooding occurred. The wells filled with reptiles. The basements filled with fossils. Mossy-haired lunatics roamed the dripping peninsulas. Moisture gleamed on the beak of the raven. Ancient Shaman's rained from their homes in dead tree trunks, clacked their clamshell teeth in the drowned doorways of forests. Rain hissed on the freeway. It hissed at the prows of fishing boats. It ate the old warpaths, spilled the huckleberries, ran into the ditches. Soaking. Spreading. Penetrating. And it rained an omen. And it rained a poison. And it rained a pigment. And it rained a seizure."

I'm so glad you were born @sprestonduncan

"And I've come
To take their servants and their surplus
And I've come
To take their raincoats and speed
I have come to get my fill
To ransack and spill
I have come to trade the harvest for the seed
Yeah, I've come to trade the harvest for the seed

Well, I've come to know the manger that you sleep in
I've come to be the stranger that you keep
I have come from down the road
But my footsteps never slowed
Before we met, I knew we'd meet" by @maraeverobbins

Tom Robbins Moon 🌙

With an autograph of starlight in one corner ✨

"There’s no point in saving the world if it means losing the moon.”

-Tom Robbins

Born: July 22, 1932 in Blowing Rock, NC

Died: Feb 9, 2025 at 92 years old

"To diminish the worth of women, men had to diminish the worth of the moon. They had to drive a wedge between human beings and the trees and the beasts and the waters, because trees and beasts and waters are as loyal to the moon as to the sun. They had to drive a wedge between thought and feeling...At first they used Apollo as the wedge, and the abstract logic of Apollo made a mighty wedge, indeed, but Apollo the artist maintained a love for women, not the open, unrestrained lust that Pan has, but a controlled longing that undermined the patriarchal ambition. When Christ came along, Christ, who slept with no female...Christ, who played no musical instrument, recited no poetry, and never kicked up his heels by moonlight, this Christ was the perfect wedge. Christianity is merely a system for turning priestesses into handmaidens, queens into concubines, and goddesses into muses."

-Tom Robbins, Jitterbug Perfume

"The day of the full moon, when the moon is neither increasing nor decreasing, the Babylonians called Sa-bat, meaning "heart-rest." It was believed that on this day, the woman in the moon, Ishtar, as the moon goddess was known in Babylon, was menstruating, for in Babylon, as in virtually every ancient and primitive society, there had been since the earliest times a taboo against a woman working, preparing food, or traveling when she was passing her monthly blood. On Sa-bat, from which comes our Sabbath, men as well as women were commanded to rest, for when the moon menstruated, the taboo was on everyone. Originally (and naturally) observed once a month, the Sabbath was later to be incorporated by the Christians into their Creation myth and made conveniently weekly. So nowadays hard-minded men with hard muscles and hard hats are relieved from their jobs on Sundays because of an archetypal psychological response to menstruation."

I love this daughter of mine and her little dog Ollie with my whole heart. Her journey is a difficult one. She's also determined to have a life beyond her conditions and medical care: here are images of some joy 😊🌞❤️

The last week has been incredibly painful, challenging and exhausting. She's dealt with norovirus which escalated diabetic symptoms to scary levels and necessitated insulin. Last night she was in the ER at Duke bc they were worried about rejection symptoms.

She's home now, recovering and healing, with lots of follow ups in the near future. As she's requesting: "If anyone has love and healing to send my way, please do."

Rest. Calm. Change for the better. Thank you, friends. 💞

Health update from @tryingabyss

"After being hospitalized Tuesday and released Wednesday, I wasn’t improving and am experiencing an abscess/cyst/infection (we think) and severe cardiac symptoms. I was advised to go to the DUKE ER last night and we got there about 2 am. My blood pressure was dropping then peaking, I was having arrhythmias, and the pain was debilitating.

I am still symptomatic but I was sent home. I’m on strong antibiotics and meds to help regulate but I’m still struggling really bad with severe hypertension.

If anyone has love and healing to send my way, please do. I’m so exhausted and I’m in so much pain. Thanks friends 💖 by @maraeverobbins

Next steps for health, healing and recovery.

Self portrait and vital info.

My blood pressure, though not LOW, was lower than it usually is in a doctor's office. I have what's called "white coat syndrome" and my blood pressure is generally about 20 points higher. The crisis center is not a hospital, though, and the environment was friendly and welcoming. I was relaxed. Made a big difference.

Turns out there were definitely medication interactions that caused some of the more alarming symptoms post&during kidney stones.

I was evaluated for basic health issues, went through a screening of my history with mental health and recovery, and was assisted by a peer support counselor during and throughout the process. There were coloring materials and I colored a whole mandala during the approx 3 hour process. I will be connected with a case manager and a professional who can monitor and prescribe meds. I will be connected with a professional who can do a full autism screening. I will be connected with services available to me through Medicaid.

New River Valley Community Services (NRVCS) is the best hub we have for this kind of help in the NRV. Crisis services also has rapid response mobile assistance if you need them to come to you.

Overall I am really grateful for how respectfully I was treated. They fed me and brought me ginger ale and helped me outline the issues that are really affecting my ability to access my full intelligences right now.

The people on the phone are great too, so don't hesitate to call. I have heard they are way better than 988, though I don't have that frame of reference.

Also, feel free to reach out to me directly if you have questions. Our mental and emotional health is really important but we often treat physical trauma more seriously. Trusting the system is difficult for me at times. I'm choosing to trust these people, though, because I need help sorting through my disorders.

A Thought is Just a Passing Train
 by John Moreland

Looking at a night sky all sewn up with stars
Looking at a night sky all sewn up with stars
Look me in the eye now, show me who you are

I had a thought about darkness, a thought's just a passing train
I had a thought about darkness, a thought's just a passing train
When you feel your weakest somebody knows your name

Save it for the savior in the shadow of your mind
Save it for the savior in the shadow of your mind
This life is but a moment, hope you had a time

Shame is a cancer, go easy on your heart
Shame is a cancer, go easy on your heart
Outside, the war continues, I will play no part

Health update:

Planned to visit the doctor today for test results on kidney stones and blood work. Instead I had to reschedule because I caught a stomach bug. Probably in the hospital 🤷Or any number of public places I've been. Mask up, folks. Wash hands every time. Remember you're not JUST taking precautions for yourself (and you do NOT want this) you're looking out for those most vulnerable. It's passing pretty quickly so far. 🤞 But I'm soooo tired y'all. Gonna try to sleep through this one and rest and heal as thoroughly as I can. 💞

This loving and compassionate doggo is looking out for me 🐕💜🕯️ taken in Floyd County by @maraeverobbins
