On 30th September 2026, the Islamic Republic of Iran hanged Ali Hemati Sistani in Mashhad. He was 33 years old.

Ali’s life was marked by loss from the very beginning. He was only six when his father, a hard-working labourer, died. With no mother to turn to, he was placed in state care. There, according to those who knew his story, he was a frail child. There is not even a photograph left of him.

Yet Ali survived. He came through years of darkness, and life finally gave him a little strength. He married, became a father of two, and built the family he never had.

In January 2026 however, Ali went into the streets of Mashhad to demand his rights, as thousands of Iranians did. He was arrested in the Tabarsi district and accused of acting as a protest leader, as if it should be a problem if he did. What followed was months in solitary confinement and, according to human rights reports, torture to extract a forced confession.

Iran Human Rights has stated that Ali was convicted on torture-tainted confessions, in proceedings that failed to meet minimum fair trial standards. State media broadcast his “confession” as justification.

He was subjected to mock executions again and again.

He was executed alongside Majid Nikandish,
A boy who lost his father at six has now been taken from his own two children. The grief the regime forced on him as a child has now been forced on the next generation.

Ali Hemati Sistani was not a statistic. He was a son, a husband, a father, and a survivor. Two children will now grow up asking why their father never came home.

We will not forget his name. 🖤
