You're a goth, vamp, indie, grunge, cosy witch, shaman or whatever alternative self you want to identify yourself with. You are a horror lover, night owl creatives, cursed indie writer, a dark poet or mopping songwriter. You create by yourself like a decent grown up and not an Ai skillless tech bro.

Your ideal playlist is more Paramore, Black Sabbath, the doors or Koutev Bulgarian ensemble (yeah you need to try it, no joke).

I'm trying to build a cool network of creative peeps on Afterlife so we can work together on WIP and share our ideas and thoughts about everything. Share music, write together, and so on.

I could have done it on discord (already tons of commu there and I always forget to chat), or pick up from my peeps on Tumblr (that I'm actually doing 👀 they'll come too) or lose time on Instagram trying to find my people among the trends and bots. But I discovered Afterlife recently and it feels like home so if you want to give it a go, hit me up, I've got a bunch of invit codes (I'll be selective, I don't earn anything from it it's just to bring cool people to an awesome alternative platforms in development).

This book ! This book !!!!! 👀😍

💡This dark thriller is definitely one of my best read so far this year and one of the little few mystery thriller I enjoyed that much. The plot is solid, the characters are great and the writing is flawless. You basically start and you cannot put it down. It's plot twist over plot twist and a human made level of horror that I particularly enjoyed (not the crap the characters do but how the author brings it to you).

📚 Magda Craig is the prime suspect in her best friend’s murder. But she knows who really killed the Scraggly Man, a serial killer who lived in her home thirty years earlier and is stalking her from across time. When Magda’s younger brother goes missing, she must follow him into the year 1996—a time before she was born—to bring him home without becoming the next victim herself.
Along with Magda, a group of Sara’s friends journey through the portal into the past. They believe she is guilty of murder, and are intent on bringing her to justice. But soon they will realize the terrible that the Scraggly Man is real, and he will stop at nothing to capture Magda.
Including killing anyone who gets in his way.

I don't know exactly how to start my review, or even how to finish it 🤣.
I don't recommend it for people easily triggered or for the weak of stomach.
It's absolutely graphically disgusting. No joke.
I think my face is stuck in a totally grossed and disgusted expression for the rest of my life.

But. Because yeah, I didn't give it 5 stars for the shiny effect. If you think you can handle it, I totally recommend this book.
As a victim of SA as an adult but also as a kid, I felt some kind of weird positive satisfaction while reading this story and a big amount of pride for the kid who got away. Like a good smell of revenge for all of us who didn't.

What I loved also is the way it goes deep into societal issues. It's an ugly but realistic depiction of poverty, drug and what you are ready to do for it. It felt like an apology for all the kids nobody saved or who didn't manage to escape and save themselves.

Tw : There is no graphic description of child sexual exploitation/abuse but heavy mention of it (the whole story is about just that). Definitely graphic descriptions of non sexual child abuse, mental health, drugs, extreme violence and dirtiness (I'm not speaking about someone with crass teeth and a 2 days without shower kind of smell, it's a trigger warning by itself, I heard my stomach growl several time and not from hunger 👀😂).

Thanks for the arc @tarawriteshorror (review has been posted on Storygraph and Pagebound also, and I'll do retailers later).

Well, that was fun. Not my usual kind of read but surprisingly, I might go for the second settlement in the series. All available on Kobo plus by the way, if you want to give it a go. The characters are funny and I love the vegan take on vampirism in a (almost) organized modern company kind of setting. I LOVED Wembley, he's my favourite.

✝️ Undead and vegan? Not the afterlife this girl had planned.
Waking up thin is one thing. But waking up gaunt, hangry, and undead makes for a very bad day. Mallory's killer better hides, because she's just discovered blood, meat, and dairy don't agree with her, and a future with no cheese is grim indeed. She's out to find her killer... and maybe a vegan cheese that doesn't melt her nose hairs.

What's your reading plan for Spooky Month ?

I already killed Playing Possum (I can consider myself on a marathon with the awesome work of @stephanierabig at this point 🤣) and plan to start Cryptid & Cauldron in a few minute (I forgot to put it on the image).

The whole Practical Magic Series is done too already. And I'm almost done with Vegan Vamp. I found this last one on #koboplus and I honestly started it just because the title and the cover were catchy 🤣 but it's actually pretty good and I might go for the whole series if the author goes ahead with it.

Dracula will be a reread (of course) and I plan to read it along the awesome full cast version with Alan Cumming and Tim Curry ✝️. And my usual Classics spooky rereads, if I manage to sneak them (or else I'll read them in November) : The Hobbit, Wuthering Heights, Beren & Luthien, The legend of Sleepy Hollow and The Picture of Dorian Gray.

I've got a full spooky reads list in progress on Storygraph and Pagebound if you want to tag along (link in bio).

I don't know if I felt bad for the guy or if I felt some sort of sisterhood pride for his wife to think about something like this 🤣🤣 payback is a b✨. this book was good and the narration worked for me even if I'm usually picky about the audiobook format. it's my second book by this author and I'll definitely go for more. on a more serious note, I'm sure obstetric violence would be taken more seriously if it happens to men on a wilder scale (I don't wish it for then though), and it's an interesting take for this serious matter.

Thanks for the ride @splatter.girl it was an interesting read and your voice actor is awesome 💜

As usual, review posted on Kobo, Tumblr, pagebound and storygraph as well.

I subscribed to @kobobooks Plus Subscription Unlimited Read & Listen, and I don't regret it.

For 11€, I've got access to a super wide collection of ebooks and audiobooks I can consume unlimited either via my Kobo Clara e_reader or from the kobo app on any devices, with sync to save your notes, highlight and progress. Also, @the.storygraph offering a kobo sync feature now, everything you read via any kobo platforms or devices is added automatically on storygraph and update itself every time you read.

I'm usually not a subscription kind of person. I'm an old-school nerd, linux user, favorising open source (and anti ai ) and local products that you actually owned. But I might make a little exception for a while, with kobo Plus, so I can binge read some of the books that have been on my wishlist for a while.

Enjoy my selection for my october TBR, all included with #koboplus

Thanks @stephanierabig and #koboplus I had so much fun with this story.

If there is some sort of zombie or were-animal apocalypse, I'll arm myself with a potato gun because that's so badass and fun and because I hate firearms 🤣.

That's my second book by Stephanie and I loved every one of them from the very first few sentences. I've got another one on my Kobo plus that I cannot wait to start.

Tiffany: Despite her dead-end job, her life is going pretty well. She has a decent place to live, good friends, and she's saving up for an engagement ring for her longtime girlfriend. Then she's ambushed in a deserted parking lot by the unlikeliest of predators... PLAY DEADVanessa: Horrified by Tiffany's close call, she at least believes that the worst is over now. But then Tiffany starts acting strangely. And are her teeth getting sharper...?OR FIGHT BACKRebecca and John: The chief of police and her husband took their niece Vanessa in years ago when her father threw her out. They're used to caring for everyone (including the strays their daughter Sophia brings home). But when the town comes under attack from ravenous furry hellbeasts, it might be all they can do to just protect themselves...NOTHING

First book (super early I know) from my spooky season tbr.

I'm addicted !! I'm going for the other books in the series right away. I think I found my favourite "cosy" witchy series for a yearly reread from now on. Great opener for spooky season.

I've always been a massive fan of the movie (I'm going to see the second one this weekend) but never read the books for some obscure reason. And I loved it !

The vibes are here, a bit of feminist rage in some way and a lot of wit and cosy witchcraft but also big dark themes like toxic masculinity, co dépendance, domestic violence, sexual assault, grief, family loss, self acceptance... What I liked the most, surprisingly, is the fact that a lot of things in the books are totally over the top. Like super exaggerated but in a positive whimsical way it actually works. I don't know how to explain that part of my review 🤣 you have to read or to get it I guess. A bit like in the movie in some way but even better.

It's a perfect series for spooky season (yeah I know I started my spooky tbr a bit in advance but I needed good and comforting stuff after too much dnf in September).

My spooky season tbr list is in my bio if you want to buddy read any book from it, let me know. I'm also on Storygraph.

I actually already rate my reading on @the.storygraph and @pagebound.co without the star ⭐ review system (as well as my blog), but I decided to stop doing it on insta too.

People are focusing too much on the stars and not enough on the actual review and most of the time, if it's not 4 or 5 stars, everybody panic.

I know, for example, that I rate 3 stars for books that I really loved and sometimes 4 or 5 for books I loved too but were weaker in terms of quality. Why ? Because it's subjective ! And I also because your emotions got in the middle of everything. I rated 5 stars on the Silmarillion and 4 on LOTR series. Not because one is not as good but just because I have so much attachment for the Silmarillion. It hit differently.

And to be honest, as a reader, I usually chose my books within a 3/3.5 average rating not more. Because I found, by experience, that it is the best range and the most balanced. Most of the 5 stars books everybody speaks about ? Most of them ended up as dnf for me. Stars means nothing.

I wanted also to remind authors, that reviews are for readers not judging your skill as an author. Don't take it personally. Even the dicky ones saying straightforward that you are a bad author and your work is crap 😂😅 (those are bad though but nobody cares about them, they tend to be isolated).

I'm not into western, movies or books alike, for so many reasons but those two books are two of my favorite books, all genres included, and are actually western. Kinda. And 2 of the Indie books I read over the last few years and totally recommend from my heart.

I had a lucky hunch twice to accept ARC (I guess that makes 2 lucky hunches) in a style, ambiance and genre I usually dislike from the blurb usually. And damn, I'm happy with that.

Both are horror (and the pretty creepy and gory kind) western, based (loosely or not) on historical crappy history events that actually happened and leaning into folk horror. The monster-you-created-is-coming-for-your-sins, kind of folk horror we love, or at least I do. Vengeance is an all you can eat buffet here and they definitely serve it cold and seasoned with wit and blood.

And a mega bonus point (for the two books) for the real badass female characters and the atmosphere. And the lesbian leads for On Stolen Land. I like my cowgirl badass.

🤠 Devil Dancers by Bo Chapel aka @infrafan & A. A Medina @uglybyproxy
The year is 1878 in the Arizona Territory. The small town of Guidance is on the brink of an economic explosion thanks to the unearthed copper residing in the nearby mountain. But buried deeper inside rests something wicked, threatening to be released by the progress of man.
Devil Dancers is the story of an unlikely trio who must band together and save the world from an ancient evil hellbent on severing the connection to the spirit of all living things.

🏳️‍🌈 On Stolen Land by Stephanie Rabig @stephanierabig
When a prairie-mad settler murders Milton Allen's brother and his family, the wealthy rancher offers an enormous bounty to bring the culprit in. Ada Marshall and Pearl Beckwourth, bounty hunters with twenty years experience, assume this is yet another straightforward job. But when a fellow bounty hunter is torn to pieces not fifty feet away from their camp, their natural wariness grows, and in the tiny, isolated valley town of Woodlawn, they learn that the attacker may not even be human...
