8 miles. Slow and steady. 🍂.
Charlie set the pace and the maples did the rest. 🍁This was my longest walk of the fall and one of my best days in a long time.😄
What’s your favorite fall trail?

Movement can feel like a gift only when you know what it means to lose it.

In our latest feature, Angela Campos @marathonsandmotivation and Tara Benoit @tarabenoitofficial share powerful stories of injury, illness, recovery, and learning to move again. From spinal surgery to surviving SCAD, their journeys are a reminder that movement doesn’t have to look the way it once did to be meaningful.

As Tara puts it, “Movement used to be something I had to earn. Now it is medicine.”

Got Ben settled in at Oxford for the school year. So proud of him.💙 A few days of old libraries, cobblestone streets, and fish and chips before we left him to it. 🇬🇧

Five miles on the trail today. The farthest I’ve gone in years.
Knee replacement in March. Spine surgery in June. Today: 1 hour 47 minutes, 5.01 miles, 274 feet of climbing, dog somewhere behind me. ⭐️
My splits went 21:37, 23:00, 22:33, 21:28 — and then 18:16. My fastest mile was my last one, by almost three minutes.⭐️
The pole keeps me from tripping and lets me move faster. It’s the reason five miles was possible today.
Halfway through I set my phone down in the leaves and walked toward it, because I wanted to see what it looked like from the outside. Slide one is what I got back.⭐️
Next weekend: six. 🍂
What’s a number that meant everything to you and nothing to anybody?

Great day and slowly, but surely making progress!! 4 hilly trail miles with the help of my muscle stimulator and walking “stick”. Each mile faster than the one before...got my heart rate up to 130’s and even had that old familiar feeling of a runner’s high at the end!!! :-) #nevergivingup # by @marathonsandmotivation

TODAY, I RAN!!!
Four miles on the trail this morning, and in the last stretch, I ran.
Negative splits on all four miles. Cane in my right hand the whole way. Charlie behind me, unbothered.
Not back. But this morning my body did more at the end than it did at the beginning.

Still smiling about this one 🥹 THREE of my recipes are featured in @womenfitnesscelebrities — my Cottage Cheese Cloud Bread, Green Apple Smoothie, and Crispy White Beans!

Ten years of blogging, hundreds of recipes tested in my kitchen, and moments like this make every flopped test batch worth it. The best part? The recipes they picked are exactly the ones I’m proudest of — high-protein, simple ingredients, and actually delicious (my kids’ honest reviews keep me honest 😂). Thank you to @fbjfit for the opportunity ❤️💖

Starting to tell an old story, one piece at a time. Part 1 is about a dream I'd set down for thirty years that stood back up in the last half mile of a small race at a YMCA. Swipe through, or read the whole thing on the blog — link's in my bio. #marathonsandmotivation #triathlonjourney #comeback #enduranceathlete #midlifeathlete #throwback #runner #triathlete #femaleathlete by @marathonsandmotivation

I owe you an explanation.

Some of you followed me through two Ironman finish lines — Mont Tremblant 2015, Lake Placid 2018. And then around 2019, I went quiet. Recipes kept coming. I disappeared.

Here’s the truth: in 2021 I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease and had major cervical spine surgery after coming dangerously close to paralysis. When I realized I couldn’t run marathons anymore, I decided my story was over. So I stopped telling it and hid behind the food. For seven years.

This past year brought a knee replacement, a comeback plan… and then another spine surgery. Another restart. And when I shared a little of it, the people who reached out reminded me of something:

My story was never over. I just stopped telling it.

So I’m telling it now — all of it. The 13-year-old at the YMCA pool dreaming of an Ironman. The bike crash still echoing in my body a decade later. The surgeries. The comments strangers make when you walk with a limp. And the comeback I still believe in, even from where I’m sitting right now: two weeks postop, not able to do much but rest. Not done, though. Not even close..
