Chroma by Corpus. Packaging Design by Marc Atlan. Some projects mean more than others. This is one of them. When my great friend @jpmastey, the entrepreneur behind @corpusnaturals, told me he was developing a skincare brand for @target, I immediately knew I had to be involved. I have supported JP’s work from the beginning. And Target had long been a dream client. For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to design packaging that is truly mass and truly popular. Not something that imitates luxury or apologizes for being accessible, but something intelligent, beautiful, distinctive and democratic. I have always wanted to design beauty for the masses. Chroma became the tailor-made assignment. Time was tight, so I convinced JP I would present a single design direction. The right one. No alternatives. No safety net. But from the start, I intuitively felt the design was contained within the name itself: Chroma. My job was to carve it out. I wanted Chroma to be an unapologetic Celebration of Color. Joyful, immediate, optimistic and impossible to ignore. A celebration not of one color, but of all of them. One of my mottos has always been that there are no bad colors, only bad uses of color. Another recurring principle in my work is the collision of high & low, sophistication & popular culture, restraint & exuberance, rigor & instinct. I wanted Chroma to embody that philosophy: a design language that could live proudly on the shelves of Target while retaining the intelligence, precision and visual authority I demand of any project. What JP and the Corpus team brought to life surpassed my expectations. Seeing Chroma fully realized as a physical, colorful line accessible to everyone is incredibly gratifying. This is the kind of work I have wanted to create for decades. Beauty for everyone. Color without apology. Long live @chromabycorpus by @marcatlandesign
