I never expected my second career to look like this.

I didn’t even start playing golf until I was 40. Back then, the rules of the game felt overwhelming. But I kept learning, earned my U.S.G.A. Expert Rules Certification, and eventually turned that curiosity into a career teaching golf rules clinics and seminars.

Last week, that career took me to Las Vegas to teach a private group of elite golfers. I flew in on NetJets and stayed at the Bellagio, and somewhere between the flight and that incredible suite, I found myself thinking about how unexpected this chapter of my life has become.

I found my passion later in life, and I’m so glad I followed it.

At 60, I’m not winding down. I’m building a life around the things I love most. If you’re in a season of reinvention, I hope this reminds you that it’s not too late to build a new life for yourself when you follow your passion.

There’s no requirement to put a unique mark on your golf ball, but it’s sure a good idea.

What’s your mark?

On October 27, I’ll be bringing the Girlfriends Golf Experience to one of Scottsdale’s premier private clubs for an on-course clinic designed to help players feel more confident in the rules.

There is something incredibly rewarding about seeing so many women feel comfortable asking questions, and become more comfortable handling real situations on the course.

The goal is simple: less confusion, more confidence, and a heck of a lot more fun during your rounds.

Scottsdale, here we come. ⛳️

You start looking for your ball, find it, but when you go grab a club and come back to make your shot you can’t find the ball again. Now what?

My friend @blakeyrules explains this golf rule.

Might be a good idea to leave your hat next to your ball so you don’t run out of time!

My girlfriend and I popped over to the Tommy Bahama Resort to check out the Golf Is For Her event.

We shopped and enjoyed our complimentary champagne, and actually fell in love with the same dress. (We will have to text each other before we show up at our clubhouse wearing the same thing!!)

We also got a tour of their spa (which I hadn’t been to since I celebrated my 40th birthday there)

What if you could learn the rules of golf right on the course? And you felt comfortable enough to ask the expert absolutely anything? What if your instructor was a woman who didn’t grow up playing golf either, so she felt much like you did when you started?

Hi I’m Marcela. I picked a golf club at the age of 40 because my best friend insisted I would enjoy the game, but I had no idea how to check in at the pro shop, where to park the cart, where to stand where others were hitting….

My first few months attempting to play golf were rough. The swing felt awkward and I felt intimated.

I stuck with it an eventually could actually string a few shots together and make some pars.

Eventually, when I started playing in some fun competitions I realized everyone was giving me conflicting information about the rules and etiquette. I knew I had to learn the rules for myself to prevent the tension and confusion out there.

Many years later I earn my Advanced and then Expert Rules Certification from the U.S.G.A. and now I travel to golf courses throughout the world, helping other women conquer the rules to gain confidence on the course.

My passion for the rules turned into my second career, just when I needed it most.

Recently divorced and 60 years young now, I work in golf - doing what brings me so much joy.

I’m here to help, my girlfriends and my guyfriends. Drop me a DM with your golf rules questions.

Here’s what you need to know for an unplayable ball in the general area.

I joined @getmorepars Christina Ricci and @womensgolfcom for a fantastic camp in Sedona, Arizona where I was able to help the ladies conquer the rules with this on-course golf rules clinic.
