At some point, something changes.

You stop thinking about what to do...
and begin feeling what is happening.

That is when Argentine Tango becomes more than a dance.

It becomes presence.
Connection.
Musicality.
A new way of expressing yourself.

If you’re ready to experience Tango beyond the steps, I’d love to guide you.

Class Playlist #341 moves through 42 recordings in eleven tandas, from Caló and Berón to Pugliese and Maciel, with instrumental milongas and vocal-duet valses along the way.

For experienced milonga dancers who know the music: Can we place a Pugliese tanda next to a milonga or vals tanda? Yes or no—and why?

Freedom and precision can live in the same tango step.

Walk forward and backward with quick-quick-slow. The rhythm is simple; choosing exactly how your movement meets the beat is the exercise.

Eleven tandas, many colors of Tango’s Golden Era. Class Playlist #340 travels from D’Agostino and Vargas to Troilo, Di Sarli, D’Arienzo, Varela and Pugliese, with Lomuto milongas and Donato valses along the way.

Some favorite recordings return. Recognizing an iconic tango is part of the joy of dancing it—and each return can reveal something new.

What changes in your dancing when the orchestra changes?

Caló and Raúl Iriarte draw us into the melody. Tanturi and Alberto Castillo sharpen the pulse. Canaro’s milongas and Biagi’s valses change the movement; Troilo and Pugliese invite us to give the phrase more time and feeling.

Playlist #339: 43 recordings. Listen for the character within each tanda and the contrast with the next.

Remembering Carlos Pérez.

Carlos and Rosa dancing at Salón Canning, Buenos Aires, in 2006. Their shared dancing and teaching remain part of tango’s living memory. Today, we remember Carlos with gratitude and honor the life in the dance he shared with Rosa.

Before social media, celebrity already influenced what people bought.

In 1922, George Ullman helped position Rudolph Valentino as a spokesperson for Mineralava Beauty Clay Company. Calling it “influencer marketing” is a modern comparison—not a claim that Valentino was the first influencer—but the mechanism feels familiar: fame, admiration, and commercial persuasion.

Let’s talk about our Tango.

Every dance gives us something to reflect on—about ourselves, our partners, and how we learn together.

I’d like to open a conversation with two questions:
1. When you reflect on your own dancing, what do you feel you most need to improve?
2. Thinking about your experiences with different partners, what do you feel they most need to improve so you can enjoy a better dance together?

Share your thoughts with honesty and generosity. Specific experiences are welcome; please avoid naming individual partners.

My playlist #337 is dedicated to Eduardo Arolas. It opens with his “Mishiadura,” played by Edgardo Donato, and includes four more of his compositions: “Una noche de garufa,” “Lágrimas,” “Derecho viejo,” and “La cachila.”

From Donato’s playful pulse to Di Sarli’s lyricism and the depth of Gobbi and Pugliese, each tanda brings a different invitation to dance. Canaro’s milongas and De Angelis’s valses change the pace, while instrumental and vocal tandas bring their own character.

Listen, practice, and discover what each orchestra brings to your embrace.

Dedico mi playlist #337 a Eduardo Arolas.

Dancing with Mimi at Rubia, I found myself thinking about intimacy. We experience emotion through the body, but we are responsible for how we express it. The person before us has desires, vulnerabilities, freedom, and limits of their own. An embrace can hold desire without possession. We meet as whole people, and still unfinished.
