Hello my name is Esther and this is a bit about me ❤️@marchhousecreative

March House.
The idea for this space has bubbling in my brain for about 6 years.
I’ve started it twice and stalled.
Fear, I think.
But you know, time’s a cracking on and I can’t keep putting off the whisper of it…which has now turned into a shout.
So, here we go….here’s a bit about it and, if you’d like to join me, well, that would be glorious!

March House bounced around my head for 6 years until last Christmas it literally started shouted at me “When are you going to do this????”.
Now.
I’m doing it now.

This week on Conversations With Creatives I am joined by the brilliant Paul Read — West End dresser, actor and writer.

Paul has worked with some of the biggest names in theatre and entertainment, including Sir Ian McKellen, Paul O’Grady, Diana Rigg and David Schwimmer. But what exactly does a dresser do? And what does it take to be the person standing just behind the curtain, making sure everything runs smoothly?

We talk about how Paul found his way into theatre from a young age, and how his life as an actor and writer sits alongside his work as a dresser. It turns out that the job is about so much more than getting someone into their costume. You’re a confidant, a counsellor, a keeper of secrets and, at times, a bit of a butler. You have to know when to talk, when to listen and when to disappear quietly into the background.

We talk about working with some extraordinary personalities, navigating egos, the importance of discretion and what happens when the pressure backstage gets intense. Paul is refreshingly honest about the exhausting side of the job, the possibility of being bullied, and the extraordinary experiences that make it all worthwhile.

We also talk about his show Dressing Them Up, in which he takes audiences behind the scenes and shares stories from a world most of us never get to see.

It’s a romp of a conversation, full of brilliant stories, backstage revelations and fascinating insights into the people who make theatre happen behind the scenes. Because for all the glamour on stage, there’s a whole other world going on backstage.

So many ideas!
💫❤️

#creativity #marchhouse #estherstanford #ideas by @marchhousecreative

When we create art we, more than likely, know what our intention was.
The “meaning” of it.
But when other people see it, what do they see.
What do they take from it?
How does it feel if it is so different from what you intended?

This is taken from my chat with @joanaprneves on Conservations With Creatives.
Joana is a curator, writer, podcast host @exhibitionistas_podcast artistic director and co founder of @worldingproject

Such a rich and interesting conversation with @joanaprneves on Conservations With Creatives.

Joana is a curator, writer, podcast host @exhibitionistas_podcast and artistic director of @worldingproject

Some of the things that stayed with me from our chat were:
What makes good art?
If you hated the art but you can’t stop thinking about it then did it do its job?
Art can stay with you and take a while to process.

This week on Conversations with Creatives I am joined by the brilliant @joanaprneves — curator, writer, artistic director of Drawing Now Paris, and host of @exhibitionistas_podcast.

Joana’s creative life spans literature, art, writing, podcasting and curating. Alongside her husband, she co-founded @worldingproject, an artist residency creating space for artists to immerse themselves in their work, explore ideas and develop their practice.

Through her work as a curator, writer and podcast host, Joana explores how we experience art, the role of language and wordplay, and how we can make the art world more accessible and supportive.

We talk about neurodiversity, mental health, the financial realities of a creative career, and why artists need more than just the space to create. They need time, support and the freedom to experiment.

One of my favourite things we talk about is the idea that not understanding a piece of art can actually be a great experience. That art doesn’t always have to be something we like or immediately understand to be valuable. Sometimes it’s the things that challenge us that stay with us the longest.

I loved this conversation with Joana. We covered so much about creativity, supporting artists and making room for different ways of thinking, seeing and making art.

“Not understanding is a great experience.”
