I always like to say - "two things can be true"

I want 29029 to grow. Go to new places. Meet more amazing humans. Explore new challenges.

I also want year 25 to feel as intimate and curated as Stratton 2017.

Some days those two fight each other.

Saying no can be uncomfortable. And not everyone will understand it.

But our constraint has always been the craft. Handwritten letters. Humans answering the phone. A personal video for every participant. Relationships built through shared experiences.

None of that scales. That’s the point.
It has always been bout protecting the participant experiences. And caring the most.

And it always will be.

Everybody wants the summit or the finish line. Nobody signs up for the middle. When you've forgotten your why. The goal still feels impossibly far away. And the desire to stop is doing everything it can to negotiate an exit.

That's the part I care about most. It's where people find out the ceiling they've been living under was never real. by @marchodulich

Two years ago, we held our inaugural TRAIL event in Lake Tahoe. It was something our community had not done before.

Three mountain marathons in three days. Hike it or jog it. 12 hours each day to cover a marathon. Every step is earned, and the shower, the bed and the dinner at the end of each day feel better for it.

These photos are from that very first weekend, and from the people who trusted us enough to join us on this new adventure.

Today, TRAIL returns to Tahoe for the first time since 2024. It’s our fourth TRAIL event, and returning to where it all started means a lot to me and my team.

I’ve been a runner since I was 3 and sharing the trails with all of you is a dream come true. Like all things at 29029 - TRAIL is not a race. It’s you vs you.

To everyone starting this morning: don’t fast-forward. It’s easy to spend day one thinking about day two, and day three thinking about the finish line. Stay where you are. Be present and grateful for your fitness, the sunshine, and the moments you will share with others who “get it”.

Notice the smell of the pines in the morning, the wind, the rocks under your feet, the lake through the trees. Lean on the people next to you. Some of them you’ll meet this week and never forget.

The finish line will be there. Don’t wish your way to it. Enjoy the journey. That’s what it’s been about this whole time.

Welcome back to Tahoe!

You cannot get fulfillment if you’re chasing achievement.

@marchodulich said this the night before 29029 TRAIL Park City, and it’s the truest thing about this event.

The buckle is real, and it matters. But the moment you find out who you are almost never happens at the finish line.

It happens on the climb you wanted to skip. In the mile you wanted to rush.

Don’t fast-forward through it.

We’re just a few days away from TRAIL Tahoe… Are you ready?! 🔥 by @marchodulich

2027 = Ten years of 29029.

Our first event in Stratton 2017 was filled with 125 people looking for adventure, challenge, and a story to tell. Now thousands more have followed them up the mountain, on the trails and created an incredible community I’m so proud to be a part of.

2027 is a big one ⛰️
We’re adding some things I’ve wanted to do for a long time. CAMP ONE is our take on how a training camp should be done. Intentional. Curated. Educational. Instructive. Confidence Building. Four days in Sedona surrounded by experts, coaches and a team prepared to ensure you leave prepared and confident for whatever event you choose in 2027.

Trail Stowe in our first journey east for TRAIL. And I could not be more excited to host our Limited Edition Verbier, Switzerland Mountain event - our first European location - in September.

We are closing out the year with a special anniversary edition where it all started - Stratton, VT. This is a chance to bring back some year 1 touches while we reflect on the journey that got us here with the community by our side. One event to honor 10 years didn’t seem like enough so we are hosting two back to back vintage editions to ensure more get to share in what we’ve built.

I truly love 29029. The people. The relationships. The beautiul places we go. And the challenges we support each other through. On and off the mountain.

I can’t wait to see where you are going with us and who you become on the other side of the challenges you take on in 2027!

My team and I will be there for you, as always.

Everyone keeps asking me two things since the 29029 Triple: what's next, and what did I learn?

It's the same answer.

During the Triple, being present, patient, and grateful was part of the job. That's why the week stuck with me. And will continue to do so.

Then I got home and kept catching myself somewhere else. At dinner. In meetings. On a walk with a friend. Phone in my hand, mind on an email.

I think of myself as an intentional person. I had to admit I wasn't showing up the way I thought I was.

Living it at home is harder than living it on a bike.

So here's what I'm trying:

→ Every day I write down what matters most, separate from the to-do list. A game with my kids. Date night with my wife

→ I tell my kids why I want the time with them instead of just asking for it

→ Email is off my phone. I check it twice a day. Inbox zero had become a stand-in for the work that matters

As for what's next: right now it is not another race or personal challenge. I've checked those boxes for now. Another one would mostly be a way to tell people I did something hard. That is ego and achievement over fulfillment.

What I'm curious about is what we can do together.

I'd never ask anyone to do the Triple with me. But there are other places to go, and other distances, durations, and ways to push people past their edges. I want to put my curiosity into designing those, and test them on myself first.

More to come. 🏔️

There are some experiences you don’t want to rush through just because you see the finish line in sight.

The 29029 TRIPLE was one of those for me.

I realized I spend so much time thinking about the finish that I forget to enjoy all the moments leading up to it. It’s easy to sprint right through the moment we were working toward in the first place. by @marchodulich

“It’s just walking.”

Hike up. Gondola down. Repeat until you’ve climbed the height of Everest. 36 hours. 1 in 3 don’t finish.

Marc Hodulich built it with Jesse Itzler. No sponsors. No trophies. 11 sold-out events this year.

In high school he ran five months on a broken foot and was told he’d never run again.

We spend so much of life trying to make things easier.

Then we voluntarily come to a mountain and ask it to make things hard.

Then, we wish it wasn’t hard.

There’s something worth paying attention to in that.
Because when the rain starts, your body hurts, the plan falls apart and the next lap feels impossibly far away, it’s easy to start wishing your way out of the experience.

But those are often the moments that give the experience its meaning.
Not because suffering is the goal.
Because discovering what you do when things get hard is.

Weeks from now, you probably won’t remember the lap that went perfectly.
You’ll remember the moment you wanted to stop.
And didn’t.

Don’t wish the hard away. by @marchodulich

The 29029 Triple. ✅✅✅

What a week w my partners @jesseitzler and @colinobrady and our boys @aimpcoach, @tsnee219, @runkevirun @mtbnates. These photos do not show the challenge, camaraderie, laughs and shenanigans that were present all week long. I cannot express enough gratitude for our crew and all the work and support they provided. @swing1 @mattburrellofficial @pranalens @conor__hogan23 @alex.hogan 🙏🙏🙏. We did it @bpeas9!! The advice, the friendship and the coaching. Coach gonna coach! This one was special for so many reasons but most of sharing it with and doing it alongside our @29029official community. I felt such a part of it with you all on the trails. So proud of all YOUR efforts on the 🏔️ and grateful to be a small part of a weekend I hope is as memorable for you as it was for me. Shared the stage last night with my cofounders @jesseitzler @colinobrady to kick off our Whistler event.

We‘re headed into the last leg of the Triple, but it’s day one of the event weekend and we’ve been reflecting on the path we’ve climbed these last 10 years.

I love that we have stayed true to the soul of what we started here with 29029.

Year one, we just wanted to do something really cool. We wanted to do something hard. And we wanted to do it together.

A decade later, that part hasn’t changed.

The team has grown. The community has grown. The mountains have multiplied. But that feeling is still there.

We call it mountain magic.

I can’t wait for so many of you to experience it for the first time this weekend.
