From the “Travel Broadens the Mind” series… 🐧

Turns out penguins are not actually from Madagascar. I’ve been living a lie all these years. 😅

They’re happily chilling down in Tierra del Fuego, where they spend their days surviving crazy Patagonian winds, raising their chicks, and looking like they’re permanently dressed for a black-tie event.

They reunite with the same partner every year… and I have absolutely no idea how. They all look identical to me. 😂

What did Atacama teach me? That a desert can sit at 4,000 meters above sea level, that temperatures can swing from 0°C to over 30°C, that vicuñas exist, that it is huuuuuge, that there is plenty of microscopic life, that you can see mountains more than 100 km away, that there are salt lagoons where it is almost impossible to sink, that you can feel cold standing next to a boiling geyser, that every day can look completely different from the previous one, and that the night sky really does look like NASA pictures.

Namaste Nepal. What a journey this has been.

From warm days in Kathmandu to cold mornings high in the Himalayas, this adventure took us through completely different worlds. Busy streets, temples and prayer flags in the capital were just the beginning before the trail slowly led us higher and higher toward Annapurna Base Camp.

Along the way the temperature dropped from almost 25°C in Kathmandu to around −8°C at night in the mountains, but the smiles, conversations and shared steps on the trail kept the spirit warm the whole time.

Standing there at ABC beneath Annapurna, surrounded by friends who walked the entire journey together, it felt like the perfect ending to an unforgettable Nepal adventure.

And now a few more days back in Kathmandu to close the story where it began.

Morning at ABC finally revealed what the evening before kept hidden.
The fog was gone and Annapurna slowly caught the first light above the valley.

Standing there at Annapurna Base Camp in Nepal, watching the mountains wake up, it finally felt real. After days on the trail the moment became even better because it was shared with friends who walked the whole way together.

The mountains made us wait the night before, but the morning at ABC reminded us why we came.

Last two days of trek took us through Deurali and finally up to ABC 4003 m in Nepal, right under Annapurna. The higher we went, the more we felt it — colder air, slower steps, that quiet kind of focus you only get in the mountains.

When we reached the base camp it was freezing and completely foggy. We stood there knowing the peaks were somewhere above us, but all we could see was white. For a moment you wonder if this is it.

But that’s also part of being in Nepal. Annapurna doesn’t perform on demand.

No worries though — the next set will be from the morning, and that’s when everything changed.

From Chhomrong to Dovan Nepal started to feel more raw. 🇳🇵Colder mornings, steeper trails, fewer villages on the way.

Long days through forest and along the river, simple rooms and hot tea at the end.
Less comfort, more real trekking.

Way from Tadapani to Chhomrong was my favourite one in Annapurna Conservation Area.🇳🇵
A long walk through deep green forests, past colourful villages, simple houses and fields hanging on the slopes.
People on the way—smiling, curious, always ready for a short chat. That is real Nepal.

How do you reach a view like this? No helicopters. No shortcuts.
Just walk. Step after step. Cold air, tired legs, good company.
You reach Ghorepani before sunset, take shelter, look out the window — and Dhaulagiri is already there, quiet, glowing, unreal.
