“Sugar Man” by Marcin Janusz
Mixed media (oil paint, sugar) on plywood, 120 × 150 cm

A white, sugar-like figure lies across a pastel meadow, surrounded by delicate grasses and small flowers. The body reads as both solid and dissolving: thick, dripping material sits on top of the painted surface, while the ground shifts into soft, powdered colours. In the hand, a pale dandelion head appears as a small, precise detail against the wider field.

As the artist writes, the sugar-like material refers to the fragility of life and the human condition. The “sweet” figure irreversibly dissolves into a candy-like landscape, holding a dandelion as a symbol of transience, impermanence, and the cycle of life and death.

“Sugar Man” is a Finalist of the Prisma Art Prize.

A reminder that Marcin Janusz’s @marcinjanusz_ solo exhibition „Storm” is on view at State Art Gallery in Sopot till August 16th.

Built around water, ice, and desert heat, „Storm” explores climate changes through an immersive journey across different environments. Here, nature is not merely a backdrop but an active force that shapes our surroundings and our inner landscape.

Each realm reveals a different face of instability and change. Water arrives suddenly, breaking apart familiar forms. Ice moves slowly, blurring orientation and inviting reflection. The desert heat erases traces, memories, and direction, confronting us with uncertainty.

The dela.art collection and Eneris are proud patrons of the exhibition.

If you’re in Sopot during the summer holidays, be sure to visit the State Art Gallery in Sopot (@pgs_w_sopocie) currently hosting two exhibitions by our artists – Marcin Janusz (@marcinjanusz_) and Xawery Wolski (@xawerywolski). „Storm”, an exhibition by Marcin Janusz, tells the story of a world in a state of “in-between” – one that constantly losesand regains its balance, one that is in perpetual motion. The artist presents the world in a fairy-tale-like manner, rooted in myth and imagination, inviting viewers into their ownreflections.

The build-up of tension, a quiet unease without words, movement between disintegration and renewal – thisprocess becomes a metaphor for contemporary reality: migration, emotions, climate anxiety, but also encounter, exchange, and rebirth. Nature here is not merely a backdropor an atmospheric phenomenon – it is an active force, co-creating the inner and outer landscape of contemporaryhumanity.

The artist guides the viewer through three realms – water, ice, and desert heat – revealing different rhythms of loss and transformation. Boldly experimenting with materials such as sugar, resin, and earth, he creates works that are not onlyseen but experienced through all the senses. It is anexperience of the “here and now,” rooted in the past and open to a future we do not yet know.

Looking back at the opening of „Burza” by @marcinjanusz_ at @pgs_w_sopocie

The exhibition tells the story of a world existing in an in-between state – constantly losing and regaining its balance, always in motion. Drawing on myth and imagination, the artist presents a fairy-tale-like vision of reality, inviting viewers to their own reflections and interpretations.
