Here’s what nobody tells you about 🇯🇵

Wanna score real Japow?
Then read this — or get ready for a reality check.
And yeah, smash follow.�I’m still dropping plenty of skiporn, but I’m also gonna start sharing stuff that actually helps you score. Proper freeride intel!

First — the good stuff.
Japan is the powder mothership.�I’ve ridden some stupid-deep zones around the globe, but nowhere stacks snow like this place.
Storm cycles that just keep reloading.
It dumps a lot. It’s as close to bottomless as it gets.

Now the part nobody likes to talk about.
That legendary pow?�Every powhunter on the planet rolls into Hokkaido with one mission!
And the result?
If you’re anywhere near Niseko or any big-name spots, good luck finding untracked. Even when it’s deep, you’ll see spiderwebbed lines everywhere. And you’ll feel that pressure of tens of other crews.
Resort? Be ready to queue an hour for first lift — and 30 minutes later the whole mountain’s been harvested.
That’s not freeride.
You go to Japan to disappear into a snow-globed forest with your crew.
No tracks. No rush.

So how do you actually score?
1. If it’s hyped, skip it.
Japan is loaded with tiny, no-name hills that nobody talks about. Empty parking lots. Cheap lift tickets. Zero scene.�They deliver blower pow with no one on it!

2. Earn it.
Touring is the cheat code.
Catch first gondy. Skin up for 45–60 minutes. That’s it.
Fresh lines for you and your crew while everyone else fights over leftovers.
It’s Japan. You don’t need a vertical 1,500m mission.

3. Stop riding blind. Study the terrain.
Pull up proper topo maps like @skida.app
Scout aspect, angle, tree spacing, etc.
Mellow pillows, dreamy forests, playful spines.
Japan has everything!

4. Stay longer. Do not gamble!
I block 12–14 days minimum when I’m chasing real snow. That way if 30–50% of them fire, I’m happy.
Even Japan gets weird weather windows.
Time equals options. Options equal pow.

5. Get car.
Microclimates are real.
One zone might have no snow while 45 minutes away it’s a dreamland.
Simple math.

6. Beat everyone to it.
First gondy. Always!
