What’s in My Rekordbox?

Miguel Bastida – Moudness.

Back to 2014 for this one.

Just a big, fat rolling groove. Heavy subs, dark vocal touches and one of those tracks that doesn’t need loads going on — it just locks in and rolls.

Released on Be One Records, and this one ended up becoming a serious record for the label, reaching #2 on Beatport and staying in the charts for over six months.

Still sounds wicked now.

I’ve had this female version of the Daft Punk “Technologic” acapella sitting in my collection for years.

Always wanted to have a proper play with it and make some kind of bootleg, but for now I threw it over one of my older tracks, “What They Want”, from the Time & Place album.

Télépopmusik – Ghost Girl (Jesse Rose Remix)

This one’s a bit of a strange one.

I’ve always just had my copy labelled “Ghost Girl Bass Version”, so when I went looking for the proper release details, the version I kept finding was listed as the Radio Edit.

Only problem is… the Radio Edit I can find is much shorter, and this is a full-length version.

Definitely the Jesse Rose remix — I just can’t seem to find this exact version anywhere.

Proper quirky house record with loads of character.

Best of luck finding this one 😂

One solid rolling groove with a slightly twisted feel to it. Weird little pad hits and details moving around the main groove without overcomplicating it.

Remember when I said all you really need is a good venue, a proper sound system, limited amount of good people and good DJs?

Well… we found the venue.

We’ve got the sound system.

The DJs are sorted for Saturday 17th October 2026

And we’re keeping it to 90 people max.

No massive club. No overcrowding. No nonsense. great music and the right people.

This is exactly the kind of party I’ve been wanting to do in Leeds.

Instead of doing a traditional track breakdown, this one took a different turn once I opened the project.

“Decisions” was finished just over a year ago, and as soon as I started going through the session I realised how many things I’d approach differently now.

That’s one of the things I love about production — you never really stop learning. Your ears change, your judgement changes, and over time you start making different decisions without even realising how much you’ve developed.

So rather than just talking through what I’d done back then, I decided there and then to strip things back and work through the track using the way I approach things now.

Less processing. Better decisions. Trusting my ears more.

The whole thing is caught on camera, including the A/B between the original version and the new one, so you can actually hear the before and after for yourself.

For me, that’s the interesting part.

Not “this is how you should do it”.

More: this is what a year of learning, experimenting and changing your approach can actually sound like.

If you’re on that same production journey, you’ll probably recognise a lot of it.

DJ Sneak – Pockets.

One of those tracks that proves you don’t need loads going on when the groove is right. It just rolls, and as a DJ that gives you loads of space to work with it, layer over it and let the mix breathe.

Going way back on this one — some old-school @jamiejonesmusic from 2009.

Slip mode on, 1/3 echo running, and I’m lightly tapping the platter to chop little gaps into the beat while the echo keeps rolling underneath.

Just messing around, but it gives it that slightly dubby feel.

What’s in My Rekordbox?

Green Velvet – Bigger Than Prince.

Released in 2013 on Circus Recordings, right around that period where house was getting darker, deeper and a little stranger. The original landed alongside remixes from Hot Since 82 and The Martinez Brothers.

I used to love playing this one. There are some properly unusual sounds running through it, and one bass sound in particular always had me wondering where it came from.

Years later I ended up speaking to Green Velvet in Ibiza and actually asked him whether it had come from an Oberheim.

One of those records that’s always stuck with me.

I was lucky enough to borrow my mate @patrick.lopaski Hydrasynth for a couple of months while he was away.

One day I decided to fully commit to it and see how far I could push one synth… and P-Rojekt was the result.

Every synth sound, bass and melodic element in the track came from that one Hydrasynth — everything apart from the drums. (Obvs)

Sometimes limiting yourself to one piece of gear is exactly what gets the ideas moving.
