I’m honored to serve as Board President with the Men of Purpose (MOP) Mentoring Program, an organization founded by my close friend and brother, Ricardo Waddy @ricardo_waddy . He tapped me on the shoulder and encouraged me to join the mission—and I couldn’t say no.MOP empowers young men (ages 10–18) to see beyond their current circumstances and step into their God-given potential. We mentor primarily African American youth from communities like Altgeld Gardens and Englewood, guiding them toward education, leadership, and a healthy lifestyle rooted in self-worth.Our mission and vision are simple yet powerful: • Equip young men with the tools to lead, grow, and succeed • Provide consistent mentorship that builds resilience, teamwork, and responsibility • Transform lives through character, purpose, and faithOur impact speaks volumes: • 85%+ mentee retention year-round • Reduced school behavior incidents • 45–60% academic growth, average GPA boost of 0.5 points • Increased leadership and civic responsibilityFor me, it all comes back to a team-first approach—whether in family, friendships, community, or professional life. Laziness/Doubting yourself8. Projecting insecurities on people9. Excessive Quantity10. Being indecisive (winners fail their way to success)11. Assumptions (one of the 4 Agreements)IN:1. Pursuing your dreams2. Compliments3. Authenticity (however its defined by you)4. Quality (conversations, clothing, travel, home-living)5. Discipline 6. Using all of your PTO (and NOT feeling guilty about it)7. Spending time with family (Elders specifically; ask questions, get detailed accounts of family lineage/stories)8. This revolution around the sun confirmed that the word “relationship” is not exclusive to romance. If we’re friends then we’re in a relationship & that requires awareness, loyalty & respect. This also goes for family or business relationships. All relationships take work. Let’s not reserve that part of self just for romantic ones.Relationships are the greatest wealth.Yesterday was the greatest testament to my statement above.
