What an incredible weekend at the @eindhovenboxcup. The tournament was a tremendous success, showcasing world class boxing and an exceptional level of competition. Beyond the action in the ring, it was also a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with boxing friends, leaders, and partners from across the globe who gathered in the Netherlands.

It was a pleasure to watch the exciting bouts alongside Matt Holt, Martin Volke, André Bolhuis, and Len Huard. The matches provided the perfect preparation for the upcoming continental and world championships.

A special highlight was reconnecting with Marcus Manalo, who is now leading Philippine Boxing together with a strong team on the road to the Asian Games. Together with my wife, Ingeborg van der Vorst, founder of the @nogirlsnoglory_foundation, we have already explored opportunities for a NO GIRLS NO GLORY project in the Philippines next year.

Together with our daughter @teddyvdvorst, we truly enjoyed the outstanding organization and the fantastic atmosphere in Eindhoven.

Another memorable moment was seeing former Team NL head coach Hennie van Bemmel deservedly honored and knighted for his tremendous contribution to Dutch boxing. Deep respect.

Former Secretary General Marcus Jarwin Manalo has been elected President of the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines following the federation’s Annual Meeting and Elections held Wednesday in Ortigas.

Manalo succeeds Robbie Puno, who will now serve as Chairman of the federation. The leadership transition comes as ABAP continues its post Olympic cycle restructuring and grassroots development push.

Former ABAP president Ricky Vargas has been named Honorary Chairman, assuming a statesman role after years of leadership. Vargas is currently Chef de Mission of Team Philippines for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and also serves as President of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas while sitting as Chairman of the Philippine Basketball Association.

Completing the Board of Trustees are Meralco Senior Vice President and former BCDA President Arnel Casanova, VCC MAK Ventures Inc. President Mark Burgos, former Department of Education Assistant Secretary Emilio Jose Abelita Jr., former Cagayan de Oro Mayor Oscar Moreno, former Baguio City Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr., two time Olympic medalist Nesthy Petecio, and San Miguel Corporation Sports Director Alfrancis Chua, who is also PBA Vice Chairman and Barangay Ginebra San Miguel team governor.

Manalo, 39, officially assumes the presidency after serving as Secretary General and Executive Director since December 2021. He was appointed following the Philippine boxing team’s successful campaign at the Tokyo Olympics, where he served as team leader.

Among Manalo’s stated priorities are expanding grassroots boxing, improving regional access to the sport, enhancing coaching and officiating standards, and increasing international competition opportunities for Filipino boxers.

Born in Bauan, Batangas, Manalo holds a Master of Science degree in Exercise and Sport Sciences with a concentration in sport psychology from Texas Tech University. He also earned a diploma in Exercise and Sport Sciences and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of the Philippines Diliman. by @marcusjarwin

Driving out of Batangas Lakelands after the father and child school activity, I asked my 4-yr old Elias if he wanted to try the zipline with me. He said he felt scared. As a sport psych guy, that’s all I needed to hear to make a u-turn and try it out. Haha. Do it scared then. And we ended up doing it 3x. Would have been more if I didn't get tired going up and down the stairs. 😂 What a brave boy! by @marcusjarwin

2025 was a tough year.
I felt like I had least amount of learning and growth. My worst health also (no serious illness thankfully). A lot of backlogs and missed details along with some major problems. I was in survival mode majority of the time trying to constantly adjust and switch focus between different work, family, and self. Really far from a state of thriving or flourishing.
But it is what it is. Those difficulties are signals pointing to areas where improvements can take place. Also, there has been some progress, some little steps, some small wins. And that’s what I will try to build on this 2026.
Despite everything that happened, 2025 is the year our Theo was born. And that in itself, among other things, is something to be really grateful for.
Looking forward to a better 2026! May we all find meaning and impact in the things that we do. by @marcusjarwin

My 6th SEA Games!
Not the best one in terms of outcome, organization, and officiating. However, I don’t take for granted every opportunity to serve and witness athletes competing for the flag and their deep purpose. Every medal has a lot of stories behind it - about passion, resilience, and the power of the human spirit. The historic wins and painful losses are all part of the competition experience. Then you see and feel the support from different institutions (POC, PSC, medical team, sponsors, media) and the Filipino community. That will always be a great experience. One of the golds taken away. I really wanted @baricuatro_bryan to win it for many reasons. He has worked extremely hard from the time we recruited him from Palarong Pambansa in 2022 to becoming one of our best boxers in the past 2 years. In addition, his weight class (48kg/50kg) was removed in the Asian Games and Olympics, and so this becomes one of the few multi-sport events he could medal in. Most importantly, his family’s house was one of the hundreds of houses wiped out by the severe flooding in Cebu caused by typhoon. Surely, that gold would have helped a lot and would have meant a lot.

We met in 2003 at the age of 17; we’re both college freshmen in UP, found ourselves as co-applicants at our beloved org, UP Batangan.

Fourteen years later, I was standing at the altar with the man who had grown from an ordinary orgmate/ batchmate into the only person I wanted to spend my life with.

We started our own family. We have gone through so much together since we first met. We’ve envisioned our dreams together and have witnessed them come true before our very eyes. Remembering those years, through all life’s ups and downs, I always feel a soft little ache in my heart that says “Grabe, sobrang mahal ko ‘tong taong ‘to”. Love that is calm, deep, and full - never fades, never gets old.

And today, that man turns 39.

39th!
Throwback na lang for birthday post. 15 years ago in Texas.
Nakakamiss yung katawan este yung time na ang iniisip mo lang ay mag-aral, magturo, at mag-workout (at umibig na din).
But not complaining about this messy confusing challenging journey. I'm very grateful for my family and career.
