Another to go on the Halifax Music Town wall at @graystonunity - Pulp played Halifax 3 times between 1990 & 1991… couldn’t get enough of it from the sound of it.

Part of my ongoing project with @graystonunity is this portrait of The Jacksons.
.
Unbelievably, they played Halifax Civic Theatre twice in 1979 so they join the ‘Halifax Music Town’ gallery.
.
I’ve slightly tweaked a promo photograph where they were standing around a poster advertising the Hammersmith Odeon show.

Part of my This Was England collection, it has Botham, Boycott, Gower and Willis seemingly standing in shock as they wait to be awarded the Ashes trophy in 1981.
.
I used the quote that Botham said to Dilley as they went to bat in the 2nd innings of the third test. He clearly thought ‘fuck it’ and decided to go and attack the bowling.
.
It remains an eternal symbol of English doggedness.
.
Anyway this one is huge - 1x1.5M and is now sold!

Recently finished commission for an 18th birthday gift. I love that the kids find and discover the old music, in my day we ‘discovered’ Led Zep, Black Sabbath, Kinks.

Just finished this Bowie ‘Cracked Actor’ piece for @june_swanson_1. Everyone who knows June knows she bloody loves Bowie, in fact this is the second piece that she’s commissioned from me!
.
Can’t wait to see it framed and on the wall in June and her partner Chris’s blue blue, electric blue room.
.
Cheers for trusting me again June I loved doing this one, it’s got a memento mori feel to it that I love.

In memory of my art teacher from school, @dave1956allen . Looking at the outpouring of positive messages over the last 24 hours it’s amazing how many lives this man affected. He had so much energy enthusiasm and encouragement for everyone - and that turned out to be lifelong.
.
He commissioned me to do this portrait of him for his grandkid, and it was such an honour. He specifically wanted to incorporate certain images, the Ukraine flag, the Covid test, and I added a few of my own - the Velvet Underground, Highlands School (down at the bottom), Trevor Francis at Dave’s beloved Birmingham FC. Love the fact that he challenged me with this and it was a real honour to be asked by the man who started me off in graphic design and later turned out to be the most enthusiastic supporter of my art shows.
.
We were lucky he decided to make Halifax his home, he would have made a huge impact wherever he went. Go easy Dave and thanks for everything.

When Grace Jones graced Halifax. I was there and it still feels surreal, maybe because it didn’t rain. This is the latest portrait for the @graystonunity ‘Halifax Music Town’ wall.
.
We are building towards an exciting event in October celebrating the deep musical heritage of Halifax.
.
Next paintings are going to be 2 much loved groups who both played Halifax not just once but twice.
