POV you decided to throw an Emo’s Not Dead Party

And everyone understood the assignment.

Everyone came dressed up, the playlist was loaded, bring your favorite fast food was served up. Moments were captured. Nostalgia on high.

It was never a phase

Keachella was a success.

The first real party ran on Kapwa. I’d set a goal a month back: build this thing and actually use it for our daughter’s 10th birthday. That day finally came, and it worked.

Kapwa is live. Guests checked in, RSVPs came through, photos filled up the gallery in real time.

Our goal now: make it effortless for hosts to coordinate their event and their guests. And build a community of trusted vendors hosts can actually count on.

nobody:

me, 3 days before the World Cup:
“ok who’s coming”
“wait how many people said yes”
“does anyone know if carlos is bringing his wife”
“who’s bringing chips”
“wait i said who’s bringing chips”
“guys”
“GUYS”

yeah there’s an app for this now.

Nobody tells you what hosting actually feels like.

The RSVPs that don’t show.

The potluck that has three bags of chips and no ice.

The group chat where you pinned the address and someone still texted you for the address.

The guest who shows up 30 minutes early while you are in a towel.

The playlist you made that someone else took over in 20 minutes.

The “let me know if you need help!” person who sat down with a drink and watched you clean up.

And then the party ends and everyone says it was great and you smile and say thank you.

And you know it was great because you made it great.
But you weren’t really in it.
You deserve to be a guest at your own party.
That’s what Kapwa is for.

How to set up your next party in under 2 minutes:

1. Go to kapwa.social and create a free event
2. Share one link with your guests
3. Watch the RSVPs, potluck claims, and photos come in on their own

That’s it. No app for your guests. No group chat chaos.
No chasing people down for photos after.

“The text I send after every party.”

“Hey can you send me your photos?”

40 people were there. I got 9 photos back.

I spent 3 hours before the party chasing RSVPs in a group chat. Found out who was actually coming the day of. After I already bought food for 30.

Three people brought potato salad. Nobody brought ice. I updated that potluck spreadsheet 11 times. By myself.

And the whole night I was managing the party instead of being at it.

I built Kapwa because all of this is fixable.

One link. Guests join by QR code, no app, no account. Photos from everyone in one shared album. Real RSVPs with names. Potluck list guests actually claim.

The morning after looks different now.

Free to start. Link in bio.

Tag the person who sends this text after every party.

“hey can everyone send me their photos from last night?”

You threw the whole party. Planned everything.
And somehow you’re the one with the least photos to show for it.

Never again. kapwa.social 🔗 in bio

I’m a software engineer and a photographer. I’ve always wanted to blend the two. This year I finally did something about it.”
Our daughter is turning 10 in less than a month. And something clicked.

We’re always at events together. Always sharing photos with each other after. Always texting “hey can you send me yours?” and getting maybe 9 back from a 40-person party.

Why isn’t there one place where it all just lives?

I gave myself a deadline. Build it before her birthday. So we could actually use it at the event.

So I built Kapwa.

A private event hub where guests join by scanning a QR code.
No app to download. No account to create.

Photos, RSVPs, potluck sign-ups, and gift registry all in one place.

And because I’m a photographer who loves a good candid, I added Snap! mode.
One shot, no preview, no retakes. Point, tap, and it’s locked in.

The disposable camera energy we all miss, right on your phone.

Our first real event is Keachella. June 27. Temecula.

If you want to try it for your next gathering, it’s free. Link in bio. Tag someone you’d share an album with. 💛

Today as I celebrated. I'm filled with a mix of emotions. I miss my dad dearly, and his absence is felt deeply, especially on days like this. Yet I'm grateful for all the love and support of my wonderful hubby, kids and family. They bring endless joy and light into my life. And to my incredible mom, your love and strength have been my rock. Here's to 35 years of cherished memories, shared laughter, and the beautiful journey ahead with my amazing family by my side. by @marcxryan

Snuck on a sailboat and pretended to be part of the crew to capture Brandon’s proposal. Danielle had no idea what was going on. I was worried the boat would be a little too rocky, but we got a break with a smooth patch. The whole moment was magical.
