The Himba women are known for covering their skin and hair with a red ochre paste. Their hairstyles and jewellery are very intricate. They look amazing, and boy do they know it! They are very sassy, confident and witty. They were quite flirtatious with my husband, and made jokes about how he wouldn't be able to resist them. They wanted to take lots of photos with him. I'm not sure who enjoyed the attention more, the Himba or my husband! .

Safari in Etosha rates as one of the most special experiences of my life. Seeing wildlife in their natural habitat is incredibly different to seeing them in a zoo. The complete surprise of what you see each day makes it such an exhilarating experience. It could be a lioness looking after her cubs, or a hyena attempting to kill a springbok, or a couple of male elephants fighting, or a group of giraffes gracefully crossing the savannah. Watching different species interact with each other is also a really unique experience that you don't see in a zoo. It's just amazing.

Deadvlei is a white clay pan filled with eerie acacia trees, surrounded by the huge dunes of the Namib desert. It is hauntingly beautiful and is like nowhere else I have ever been. It is the definition of 'other worldly'.

Sunrise at Dune 45, Sossusvlei.

I have had an affinity with deserts ever since I first visited the Sahara. Now it's become my life mission to visit all the major deserts in the world. They are peaceful, spectacular and remote. They fill me with a stillness and joy like no other place does.

The Namib is the oldest desert in the world. It is the definition of other worldly - it looks like Mars. When people ask me where my favourite place is that I have ever travelled to, this is the place that comes to mind. It is hard to put into words just how mesmerising it is. .

The long road to nowhere.

Namibia is the second least densely populated country in the world, and it definitely feels it. This is the most isolated road I have ever driven on. We literally didn't pass a single car or petrol station for hours and hours. No phone signal either. Those formidable clouds became a thunderstorm that we got caught in whilst driving. We only had a certain amount of daylight hours to drive in, and if we pulled over to break for a while, we may not have made it to our destination before sunset. The thought of driving on that road alone in darkness was even more scary than trying to skid along the unpaved road whilst the rain thrashed about the car. It was a relief when the clouds eventually parted and the sun came through to dry up the huge puddles of water all over the road. It was a surreal experience.

My definition of paradise. My favourite beach in the whole world.

Anse Cocos is a secluded beach on the tiny island of La Digue. It is secluded because there is no easy way to get there. There are limited roads on La Digue and practically no cars; locals get around on foot, bicycle or little golf carts. Getting to Anse Cocos involved a bike ride then a hike through a rainforest. We got a bit lost in the rainforest, however stumbled upon some other lovely beaches on the way. Finally, when we got our bearings and arrived at Anse Cocos, I was an awe. It had taken about 2 laborious hours to get there, but boy, what an amazing reward for our efforts! We had the beach all to ourselves for most of the afternoon.
