An enjoyable and tightly scaled exhibition visiting from Dallas at the Art Gallery of Ontario. The evolution of Impressionism with some unexpected highlights, including some pre-‘grid’ Mondrians. Also interesting to learn that Berthe Morisot (first slide) had to rent a boat to capture the scene she was working on as she was being jeered at, given how unusual it was for women to be painting out in public. More stewardship. This week digging out Japanese knotweed, a fast growing invasive that takes over local ecosystems and reduces biodiversity. The season begins for the Toronto Nature Stewards - with more than 50 sites across the city, citizens are improving the environment one patch at a time. The weather was not particularly congenial at our little corner but we had a good look at the emerging spring ephemerals on our site - marsh marigolds, mayapples, bloodroot, trout lilies. A couple of good weekend mornings out with the community cleaning up the Vale of Avoca. Very satisfying. Also - part of a larger project to restore this 1.5 kilometer Environmentally Significant Area which has been affected by erosion from increasingly intense rainstorms, deteriorating trails and invasive plant species.
