My aunt Mary Tara was one of a kind. A spectacular, wonderful human who was so loving and deeply loved.

Mary Tara was my godmother by designation but more of a fairy godmother in the way she cared for me, my siblings, and my cousins.

I spent much of my childhood with my aunt as we traveled to New Jersey for musicals, city days, beach trips, and eventually Irish dance competitions. Despite living in different states, through dance I spent many weekends with her where she always ensured to coordinate her outfit with the color of my dance dress. I was lucky to travel to Ireland with her twice where on both occasions we created some of our greatest memories and hardest laughs.

Mary Tara superseded the role and responsibilities of an aunt. She helped moved me into my apartment, took me shopping for interview clothes, and would magically send packages when she knew you needed something you wouldn’t necessarily buy for yourself. She was endlessly funny and the best story teller, with an ability to make you feel like you were included in the memory just by being a listener.

I will remember my aunt for her kindness, generosity, selflessness, and the inimitable bond she shared with my mom, her “sissy”.

I feel forever grateful to have known her, loved her, and been loved by her. I will cherish the music, the arts, and the wonderful memories we were so lucky to share together. I will miss her so much. She was simply the best.
