🫑This year, we also had lots of red peppers and a few green ones. They usually start ripening towards the end of summer, but this year they only arrived in October. A little smaller than usual, but incredibly tasty!
🌶️
I picked a few more this weekend, and I love using them to make caldeirada, tomato soup, or simply roasting them in the oven. Their flavour is nothing like the peppers you buy at the supermarket. 🌶️🫑

Today, while thinking about what to make for lunch, I suddenly had a real craving for Portuguese fritters (pataniscas). I hadn’t made them in such a long time.

I have to admit that I tend to do them by eye when I cook. My mum used to make these quite often, and they always remind me of home. In Portugal, the most traditional ones are made with cod, but you can also make them with other fish, vegetables or tuna.

This time, I decided to make vegetable fritters, and they turned out really well. I served them with rice, and it made such a lovely lunch.

Here’s more or less how I made them:

🥚 2 eggs
🥄 3 heaped tablespoons of flour
💧 80 ml of sparkling water
🧂 Salt and pepper
🥕 Leftover vegetables: 2 or 3 slices of carrot, spring onions, coriander and green beans
🧀 2 or 3 thin slices of halloumi, which I needed to use up but unnecessary
🥄 2 teaspoons of baking powder

First, mix the eggs, flour, sparkling water, salt, pepper and baking powder until you have a smooth batter, similar to pancake batter. Then add the cooked vegetables, along with the finely chopped halloumi.

Heat the oil in a frying pan and fry spoonfuls of the mixture over a medium heat until golden brown on both sides.
❤️

🏠 A before and after photo of this side of the house and the marquise, which we’re restoring to become a space for playing table tennis, reading, and playing cards.

This whole area has been renovated, as it was in quite poor condition. During the winter, a lot of water used to get in, and the walls were badly stained inside . The trees were cut down, and the walls were stripped back, treated and repaired.

It’s wonderful to see how much it has changed. Little by little, we’re bringing my old house back to life and creating new spaces for the family to enjoy. 🤍

Persimmons were a huge hit this year in my garden, and I managed to give lots of them away, to family, neighbors and friends🧡

Love to give away the produce of my garden, and to see the look in other peoples’ faces.❤️ These are the small gestures that make my life worth living.🌱

This week, I found myself slowing down and admiring the flowers growing in our garden. 🌸 These beautiful pink blooms appeared all on their own, without anyone planting them, and have now taken over the old chicken coop.
Nature has a lovely way of filling forgotten places with life and beauty.

One day, I hope to restore this little corner, just as we are now restoring the old shed above it. Nearby stands an old potato store, where we once kept the potatoes we grew and hung our onions to dry. It was a dark little room, full of the simple rhythms of country life.

Today, it is more open, and the old wire mesh is gone, but I still dream of bringing it back to life one day.

There is something special about these old places. They hold so much of our past, and as we slowly restore them, we are also keeping a little piece of our history alive. But for now, I’m happy to pause, admire these unexpected pink flowers, and let nature have its moment. 🌿💕

🍀Lately, I’ve been waking up very early, before sunrise quite often, and to be honest, it’s become one of my favourite moments of the day.

The house is quiet, everyone is still asleep, and I get a little time all to myself. Just a moment to enjoy the silence, gather my thoughts, have a coffee, and simply be, without any noise or distractions. There’s something so comforting about having this little part of the day to myself before everything else begins.

These little bellflowers have been growing here for many, many years, growing naturally in their own wild, carefree way. I love that about them. They don’t need much attention or anything to be perfect. They just grow where they belong, coming back year after year and quietly becoming part of the garden. 🪴

A truly glorious morning today.☀️🐑
The temperature was just perfect, the sky was blue, and I took the opportunity to spend a little extra time in the garden with my baby girl.

We picked some fruit and watched the sheep grazing. 🐑🌿

A truly special day for me, filled with the simplest things that mean the most.🤍
