Sometimes the hardest part is taking that first step.

You know the one.

The one you've been wanting to take, but you keep finding reasons to wait.

Here's what I've learned: you're not going to have everything figured out, and it doesn't have to be perfect.

Take the step anyway.

You might be surprised by what happens when you stop holding yourself back.

And if you do, I'd love to hear about it.

🎙️ From my conversation with Stephen Lee-Thomas on Beyond the Corporate Ladder.

I've learned that not every investment in ourselves or our businesses comes with an immediate result.

Sometimes we're so focused on what hasn't happened yet that we overlook what is changing within us.

I believe in knowing your numbers, protecting your essentials, and making thoughtful financial decisions.

But I also believe growth takes time.

Not every return shows up in your bank account right away.

Sometimes the first return is clarity, confidence, or learning to trust your own judgment.

How do you recognize growth before you can see the results?

There’s something I see very differently now than I did earlier in my career.

For a long time, I thought having the right professionals around a business meant the important pieces were covered.

And individually, they often are.

The bookkeeper knows the books.
The tax professional knows the return.
The attorney knows the legal issue.
The owner knows where they want to go.

But after more than 20 years of sitting inside businesses, I’ve learned that some of the biggest financial decisions actually happen between those seats.

Nobody necessarily missed something.
Nobody necessarily did anything wrong.

The business simply reached a point where the pieces started affecting each other.

That is why when someone brings me a question now, I rarely want to answer it in isolation.

Not because I want to make it complicated.
Actually, the opposite.

I want to understand enough of the picture that we can make it simpler.

Sometimes that means I spot something the owner hadn’t considered.
Sometimes I confirm exactly what they already thought.
And sometimes my answer really is:
“You’re good. Leave it alone.”

That matters to me.

Because good advice isn’t measured by how much action we create.

It’s measured by whether we understood enough to make the right decision.

Twenty years ago, I probably would have described my work much more through accounting and taxes.

Today, I think the better description is:
I connect the dots before the dots become consequences.

That is one of the biggest differences experience has made in how I see the work.

What’s been more valuable to you as your business has grown — more information, or someone who can help you make sense of all of it?

I’m curious about something today.

When you have a bigger decision in front of you, what do you usually do first?

Think it through yourself?
Call someone?
Start researching?
Or move and figure out the rest after?

Let me know in the comments!

Happy Monday ☀️ A new week is a good time to remember the value you bring, even when others don’t see it yet.

For years, I took it personally when people were willing to pay for my team’s work but not for me.

I kept trying to prove what I could do, until I realized I was spending too much time explaining my value instead of standing in it.

Over time, I learned that my worth isn’t defined by what others are willing to recognize or pay for.

It’s also in how I see things, the decisions I help people make, and the perspective I bring to the table.

That shift changed the way I showed up in my business and in myself.

Sometimes, the next step isn’t proving more.
It’s trusting what you already bring to the table.

As you start this week, where in your life could you stop trying to prove yourself and start standing more confidently in who you are?

Happy Friday! A few years ago, I went through a season where my health affected almost every part of my life.

And one thing became very clear very quickly:
Being capable was not enough.

I still needed the business to keep moving when I didn’t have my normal capacity.
I needed systems.
I needed people.
I needed things to have a place to go before I was the one who suddenly couldn’t carry all of it.

That season changed the way I think about support.

I used to see support as something you brought in when the problem became big enough.

Now I see it very differently.

The best time to build support is often before you desperately need it.

That applies to business.
Money.
Health.
Leadership.
Life.

You don’t have to wait until something is heavy to decide you don’t want to hold it alone.

That is something I would tell the younger version of me much earlier.

What’s one area of your life or business where you’ve learned to ask for support sooner?

The older I get, the more I appreciate having the right conversations at the right time.

Especially when it comes to big financial decisions.

Sometimes, we get so focused on the opportunity in front of us that we forget to pause and look at the bigger picture.

When buying property, for example, I believe the conversation with your CPA should happen before the purchase, not when it’s time to prepare your tax return.

Understanding where the money is coming from, how the purchase affects your cash flow, and how it fits into your long-term plans can make all the difference.

Because the goal isn’t just to make a purchase. It’s to make a decision that supports the bigger picture you’re building.

What conversations do you make sure to have before making a big financial decision?

The older I get, the less impressed I am by revenue.

I used to think success was about how much a business could make.

Now I find myself asking a different question:

What is all that work actually creating for you?

Because you can build a very successful business and still build yourself another job.

You can create revenue without creating freedom.

And you can build a business without necessarily building wealth outside of it.

After 20+ years in business, I think about this very differently now.

I don’t just want to build something that makes money.

I want to build something that gives me options, creates freedom, and supports the life I actually want.

What are you really building?

I’d love to hear your thoughts below.

As I start this week, I still remember one of the first expensive lessons I learned when I went out on my own.

I was young, working in tax, starting to build my own business — and there was a point where I should have made a change around how I was structured.

I didn’t.

Not because I didn’t care.
I just didn’t step into it soon enough.

And that decision ended up costing me somewhere around 8,000–12,000.
I felt that money.

And what stayed with me wasn’t only the amount. It was realizing that by the time I fully understood what I should have done, the moment to do it differently had already passed.

That experience changed how I think about financial advice.

You can file everything correctly later.
You can understand exactly what happened.
But sometimes the value is in having the conversation before the decision becomes history.

I’ve carried that lesson with me ever since.

Have you ever learned an expensive lesson simply because you got the right information too late?
