𝒟𝑜𝓃’𝓉 𝓇𝓊𝓈𝒽 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝓂𝒶𝑔𝒾𝒸…It’s been a huge week…family visiting, kitchen cupboards finished & benchtops finally in place, taps and dishwasher installed and working, the oven hooked up to the gas but not hard wired yet (oven top is chipped😩 of course it is🤯 but it will be replaced), a big birthday and finally a working split system that has brought some much needed warmth into the house. Still a lot to do in the kitchen...tile splashback, pot rails, shelving in the scullery and wallpaper...but it’s useable at last and I love it. Still trying to figure out all the Apps that today’s appliances (even the rangehood & doorbell!!) require to run on. Just been shat on…figuratively and literally!!Trying to clear out & turn the spare room back into a bedroom for my sisters who are coming to stay in a few hours. Popped the quilt out on the line to air and half an hour later it’s become the target of an angry bird who’s dropped its very full guts all over it😩🤯😤Meanwhile, in the kitchen, the installer has returned at last after a very tedious 6 week wait (lucky it was an URGENT order😤) to replace and install the 12 damaged & missing panels. I had to empty every drawer & cupboard (which I’d only recently unpacked & put away) & find somewhere to put it all… took me an hour😬 Thank god everything went together again ok, but now I’m left with another huge mess and all the packaging rubbish and the useless panels all piled up on my front veranda. Oh, did I mention he also had a dump in the new toilet on his way out? I had to leave the house, I remembered that experience from last time😖🤯#renovation #justwantittobeover #stressedtothemax by @margywargi

Home alone…trying to sort out the shambles…moving furniture, top coating doors, filling & undercoating over-a-century-old skirting boards…then suddenly you spy the ugly varnished hall door & think you should sand it down before it gets rehung. Started to pull out & reinstall the furniture. It’s like playing a giant game of Jenga you have to remove things one at a time so that the pile of boxes, chairs & stuff that’s packed high on top doesn’t fall. This gorgeous French buffet used to sit on the opposite wall with the dining table in front of it. I’ve completely forgotten what I used to have on top of it but I’m already loving being able to see more of it on this side of the living room #unpackingatlast #frenchbuffet #beautifulcarving #inthelivingroom #nearlyfinishedreno by @margywargi

Found the stereo so Amy’s singing in the background as I unpack a few more kitchen boxes. The amount of bubble wrap, newsprint and wide sellotape I’ve used is phenomenal & tells a lot about the state I was in straight after Christmas when I had 2 weeks to get six rooms completely packed up🤪 No wonder I got RSI.Even the grandies $2 melamine Bluey bowl got the royal treatment😝 Unpacking is exciting & easy and after a day spent sanding down a wall of doors and window frames at least it’s making me laugh… #newkitchen #stillnotfinished #unpackingistheeasypart #stilltraumtisedfrommovingcountries15yearsago #needtofindthespareroombeforemysisterscometostay by @margywargi

Don’t ever tell me I can’t do something…I can be very determined when I want to! Nearly had a hernia & lost my left boob moving some heavy boxes and squishing into the very back of this overly packed bedroom to locate my beautiful old French bakers rack, empty it, lift it up and over and out into the kitchen. Today’s Bookclub outing…Rome exhibition followed by a surprisingly good lunch at the museum’s upstairs restaurant.I studied Art History & Classics at Canterbury University in my late 40s/early 50s and spent my Honours year researching a collection of ancient Greek & Roman oil lamps held in the Canterbury Museum, so seeing this exhibition was right up my alley. The familiar faces carved so skilfully in marble, the hairstyles, the history all came flooding back. There is an amazing sarcophagus carved in unbelievably high relief with scenes of victory in war to honour a soldier & another, a tiny one for a 2yr old child, covered with carvings of playful putti. Such scenes teach us so much about the social history of life so long ago. A clever reconstruction of the garden frescoes & tessellated floor from the triclinium of Empress Livia’s country villa is so beautifully done. It’s a great exhibition…all artefacts are from major museums in Rome & Florence & it’s the first time they’ve been seen in Australia. How lucky are we? Go see it.
