I miss singing La Zia Principessa almost every single day👸🏻

Thank you to @dawmarte for the wonderful review! @operacanada 💛

“Maria Milenic was magnificent as The Princess. Her chilling acting made her character’s confrontation with Margison a highlight of the opera, and her velvety mezzo voice gave her the air of a powerful aristocrat.”

Also shoutout to #simoneluti for coaching me on the role and helping me make sense of the language ~~ my interpretation of the role was all thanks to him 🫰

@highlandsopera you are the best! Xx

Little appreciation post for RUR a Torrent of Light
🤖🕹️🪫⚡️🔮🌀®️

It was such a fulfilling experience getting to work with @michaelhmori , @gregohgreg and @amandatestini on this incredible project!

Since Tapestry premiered this opera back in 2022, the team has continued workshopping it with the hope of adding new layers and exploring a fresh take on the piece - especially given how much AI has progressed in the past four years.

Playing Heléna really challenged me as an actor and inspired me to think about the people who might have shaped her. I decided that Heléna’s role model would be Jane Goodall, so our wonderful stage managers even printed a photo of her to keep on my desk onstage!

The opera incorporates electronic tracks that play live alongside the performers’ voices, creating an absolutely stirring soundscape. (But not only that!) this workshop also incorporated electronic wearables into our costumes, complete with wireless speakers and lights, provided by the OCAD wearable electronics team.

Did I mention I love contemporary opera?

I’m so glad to have been a part of this one. 🩶

Happy birthday to my favourite person 🩵 @christhabib

I’ve been waiting my whole life to meet someone like you ~ and I’m the luckiest girl in the world that I met you three and a half years ago. Thanks for always being there for me and for being my best friend and my number one fan. You’re the most incredible human, and life is more special when I get to spend it by your side.

You put your heart into every performance and you inspire me to do the same ~ watching videos of you play guitar literally transports me. Love you to the moon and back.

It was such a special opportunity getting to play the role of the Sandman in Hansel and Gretel with Calgary opera 🍭

One of the highlights for me was incorporating puppetry into the performance👂 and learning how to maneuver an ear across stage while singing. With the help of @oldtroutpuppetworkshop and @alideregt we brought to life the illusion of a face with its individual features hovering over me.

This concept was inspired by a tree sculpture in Alberta that featured individual facial elements placed on different trees 🪾coming together to form a single face.

From Calgary Herald: “The Sandman, sung by Maria Milenic, made a strong impression, delivering some of the opera’s most appealing music with evident enjoyment.”
