Notes on Materials - at aiayu, materials are more than a starting point, they are a guide. The fibre determines how a garment should be made, how it should feel, and what it wants to become.

“This way of thinking, this way of looking at the world, all started when I discovered llama wool - it was love at first sight. I was so fascinated by the fibres’ softness, it was beautiful. When the material leads, you need to fully understand what you’re working with, which narrows your possibilities, but also forces you to be more creative.” – Maria Høgh Heilmann, Founder and Creative Director, aiayu. by @mariahheilmann

@mariahheilmann introduces Notes on Materials - a new series dedicated to those who, like aiayu, place materials at the heart of their practice.

Along the way, you’ll meet friends of the house - creatives, chefs, designers, makers - each offering their own notes on the material that defines and guides their work.
