It has been a year without my mom. I miss her so much. There have been so many times in the last year that I went to grab my phone to call her, and then remembered she isnt here. She was an amazing woman.

She taught me resilience; power of prayer; be kind to everyone, even those who hurt you; forgive even the unforgivable the way Jesus forgives; the importance of family; never owe anyone money; the value of an honest day's work; to love oneself first so we can love others later; and to be patient with my children, as they will one day grow up and mature.
My mom was a strong woman. Until the end, her mind was sharp and was still reciting the rosary and her favourite prayers. She was a woman of faith and it showed in her thoughts, in her actions, in her words, and in her prayers.

I recently read a post that reminded me that once a mom is gone, we have lost the one person in the world who loved us more than anyone else ever could or ever will. We lose our biggest cheerleader, our biggest fan, our home, our safe place. ๐Ÿ’” My mom truly loved others and tried to see the good in each person. She had mercy and compassion for all. I tried to do my best to take care of her and make sure that all her wishes were granted.

We had our challenges too as normal families do. The most memorable is when I finished high-school in Italy and I wanted to purse becoming an airline pilot which meant going 2 hours away from home to school. Her answer was: "a daughter of a southern Italian woman leaves the house only when she is married or dead, and as you are neither, you are not leaving home". ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ That was a hard reality to accept. I later found out that she lied . ๐Ÿ˜‚ I got married and still had to live with her. The excuse was that I needed to save money for a house. The day i moved out, my sister in law Vera had to console her as she was crying on the driveway. I moved around the corner. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€ Literally, less than a 5 minute walk. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Love my mamma.

For those of us who have lost our moms, we understand the fragility of life. If you still have your mom, go visit and give her a hug or call to check in with her as one day, this opportunity will be gone. ๐Ÿ’” Miss you Mamma by @mariamccann15

We spent Sunday touring the area around Sundusky, Ohio. We ended up in Milan,Ohio, the birth town of Thomas Edison. Ate at a quaint restaurant called @theinventionrestaurant . Staff were friendly, and the food delicious. The restaurant was filled with locals. I felt a little out of place at first, but the waitress was welcoming and made us feel right at home.
We stopped at @kalahariresorts and did some shopping in the stores on the resort and played a round of mini golf. Tia made a new friend.
Finished our day at Olive Garden restaurant before crossing back to Canada. taken in Sandusky, Ohio by @mariamccann15

Had a wonderful time at Halloweekend at @cedarpoint . God answered my prayers and gave us nice weather. Everyone enjoyed themselves.
It was Amir's first time riding roller coasters. I was impressed, he took on the challenge and conquered each Rollercoaster.
I was happy that I was able to go on the Ferris Wheel. It was windy so I was happy when the ride was over.
We walked through some of the fright areas. Tia was scared twice pretty good to the point of dropping to her knees. It was funny.
It was a really nice family adventure. It felt good to disconnect from our electronics and live in the moment and enjoy each other's company. taken in Cedar Point Amusement Park Sandusky, Oh by @mariamccann15

This year, I am thankful for my journey as a mom.

I was 27 when I had Patrick. I was young and thought everything was going to be easy and fun.As Patrick was an only child, we invited his best friend Bradley on our family vacations, and he became another son.

As I got older, I knew we had to complete our family. We applied to Children's Aid Society (CAS) as we wanted to adopt 1 boy and then have more biological children. When CAS found us a boy, they also gave us an unexpected surprise: the 6 year old boy came with a 3.5 and 2.5 sisters. I never prayed so much in my life, asking God if this was what He truly wanted from me.
I thought love would fix everything, but I learned quickly that foster children come with trauma. In a report I read, it said that the parents chosen had to have sofiticated parenting skills. That should have been a clue for what was to come.
It has been a roller coaster ride. I did the best I could with the knowledge I had. I have learned a lot over the years. There are things I wished I would have done differently.

One decision that my husband and I did was to be self-employed so that we could always be available if any of our children, godchildren, or other children ever needed us. One of my other children is Jay, Avery's best friend. I promised his mom I would always watch over him, and when she passed away during Covid, I kept my promise. Being self-employed allowed us to be able to go to all sports activities, pageants, field trips, hospital emergency visits, and pick up from school when not feeling well.

One thing that will never change is our immense love for them, our belief in them, and our desire to help them find their happiness by finding God's given path for their life.

Now, they are all adults and have brought significant others to our family: Bella, Amir, and Sam. Another step in my journey is now accepting that I am no longer the most important person in their life. A time when I have to rediscover who I am and start working on my goals and what I want to accomplish for myself.

I am the woman I am today because of the challenges I faced as a mom. I have learned a lot and grown into a better person. by @mariamccann15

Congratulations, Tia, for graduating from the Child and Youth Care program at St. Clair College.
So proud of the woman you are becoming. You have had to overcome many situations over the last 3 years, but you did it. You showed what it means to have determination, resilience, focus, and vision to succeed and accomplish your goal.
Can't wait to see where life takes you.
Love you to the moon and back a million times. โค๏ธโค๏ธ
