Art that looks flawless is not my thing….

Everything I do or make is imperfect and it took some time but I am ok with that 😌

Thank you so much to everyone who ordered from my shop.

I normally thank everyone individually…but this season has been hard. And I’ve been exhausted 😔

Each order means so much to me personally.

I can explain how much but I’m just gonna leave it at that.

Thank you 😌✏️

I can’t tell you how many times someone has said:

“That looks like my son!”
“This illustration looks like my daughter.”
“This reminds me of so and so at work.”
“I like that any child can see themselves.”

And nope 👎🏽 I never expected this kind of feedback.

😌✏️ I’m blessed indeed

Cotton Candy Skies -> swipe to see the magic...
–
I couldn't stop imagining this "cotton candy sky" after I wrote this piece from our prompt in Grounded Writers with @hajera.khaja , so... I had to get it illustrated by @mariampoppins...She ABSOLUTELY BLEW ME AWAY with this gorgeous illustration. Thank you so much for taking this vision out of my brain and making it come to life so beautifully. I'm obsessed. I need a framed print of this on my wall asap. MashaAllah such a talented illustrator 🥹🫶 I can actually see my characters making their journey through the woods, discovering magical creatures, and chasing after that dragon (peep the dragon in the sky 🐉)... Maybe we will see more of Zainub and Zoya's adventures 👀

Meet the Illustrator: @mariampoppins 🎨💛

Wife, mom, homeschooling parent, and children’s book illustrator. She describes her art as nostalgic, sprinkled with joy, hope and positivity. She’s also the artist behind The Hit List cover. 💎

Watch to see her story, her advice for authors, and a fun fact about her.

One thing she wants authors to know: quality illustration takes time. Human-made art takes patience, love and time. It’s not fast food.

She’s open to new collaborations with people who think her art is a good fit for their project, with no changes to her style. Authors, tag someone who needs to see her work. 👇🏾

You’ve been waiting, so here it is. 💎

The Hit List cover, illustrated by @mariampoppins . She’s the illustrator I’ve admired for so long, and I still can’t believe she said yes. 💛

The Hit List is a guide to hidden gems: picture books that put Black kids front and center, with stories and illustrations that actually hit. Human-made art only, no AI. Not the same books on every other list.

It’s still a work in progress, and it’s a living list, so I’ll keep adding new categories and books over time.

Want it the very day it’s released?
💎 Comment HIT LIST and I’ll send you the link to sign up and it will land in your inbox as soon as it’s ready📬

Tag a friend who’s always asking, “What should I read to my kids?” 👇🏾

This is a 💎. Put this on the shelf.
