I spoke to Kat a lot in what I know now to be her last few weeks on this earth. I am grateful that I got to bask in her love so much before she left and feel honored that she trusted me enough to let me in to try to understand the pain she was feeling. At the same time, I am utterly heartbroken that she couldn't trust me and everyone who loved her to carry her through to the other side.

The last thing she texted me was that she would FaceTime me after her first shift at Loreto. I was so happy she was agreeing to future plans. I asked when her first shift was, thinking I could mark her as safe at least until that date, buying time to figure out what to do next and painfully unaware she had likely already bought her ticket for Peru.

Kat, I hope we can meet again in the future. Until then, I will be missing your BBB (big, beautiful brain) each and every day. You were the purest meaning of “sqeetie”, an inventor of words and wisdoms too good for merriam webster, and a live remixer of reality in such hilarious and original ways that an entire writer’s room couldn’t fill the void of comedy left in your absence.

I love you Kat 🖤 by @mariaoffbrand

🎞️ directors will put a really brightly lit scene after a scene that makes you weep just so everyone in the theater can see you ugly crying. Shot on Pentax k1000 by @mariaoffbrand
