Last Thursday was Senior Night for the VHS Girls Golf Team. ⛳️❤️

As I very slightly sped across Napa trying to get there on time 😂, I loaded RED—because apparently I’m not one of the cool kids who has playlists on their phone. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Then Taylor Swift started belting out All Too Well… and there I was, choking back tears.

Suddenly I could see my baby girl in 8th grade again. Still trying to find her place. Still riding around Napa with me in my van, listening to these same songs.

How is it possible that those days feel like LAST WEEK… and now she’s a SENIOR getting ready to apply for COLLEGE?!? 😭

UNREAL.

Then all the “firsts” started flooding my brain…

First day at a California school 🎒
First day of middle school.
First day of high school.
First heartbreak 💔
First sleepover.
First school dance 💃🏽
First date.
First time behind the wheel 🚘
First trip to the ER. 😩
First golf tournament ⛳️
…and soooo many more.

And then it hit me:

How am I supposed to be okay knowing that so many of her future “firsts” will happen on her own… without me there? 😢

Motherhood is a bitch. 😂😭

You spend all these years teaching them, protecting them, driving them everywhere, cheering for them, worrying about them… only to realize that you’ve done your job well when they don’t need you anymore.

And somehow, you’re supposed to be okay with that.

Even PROUD of it. ☝🏽❤️

Well… tonight, Charles and I—and Coach Chris—couldn’t be prouder of Max and ALL these beautiful young ladies standing right beside her. They’re all on that same crazy precipice between childhood and adulthood, with so much life waiting for them on the other side. 🥹

Bravo 👏🏽 to our young golfers ⛳️🏅 and to all their parents, too—because I KNOW I’m not the only one randomly getting teary-eyed this senior year. 😭😂

Happy Senior Year, Max!!! 🎉⛳️

Make the MOST of it, baby girl.

The date behind California’s Filipino American History Month goes back to a ship landing in 1587.
On August 3, 2026, both chambers of the California Legislature formally recognized October 2026 as Filipino American History Month. The Assembly adopted House Resolution 102 (HR 102), introduced by Assemblymember Jessica Caloza, while the Senate adopted Senate Resolution 120 (SR 120). SR 120 passed the Senate that day by a 36–0 vote.
But this isn’t the first time California has honored the month. The state’s recognition predates 2026, and Filipino American communities have celebrated it nationwide since 1992.

So why October? On October 18, 1587, men identified in Spanish records as “Luzones Indios” (Luzon Indians); currently known as Filipinos, came ashore from the Spanish Manila galleon Nuestra Señora de Esperanza on the California coast in the vicinity of present-day Morro Bay. The Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS) recognizes this as the earliest documented presence of Filipinos in what is now the continental United States.

The story kept growing after that landing, through generations of people who worked in California’s fields, built ships, cared for patients, and made communities of their own.

I like that the month leaves room for those everyday lives, too. A family story about working in a cannery or becoming a nurse can belong in the same conversation as the dates in a history book.

We got a little action early this Saturday morning. Bolt rekindled his interest with one of his nemesis. 😝 The tourists got entertained at least.
