Exhibition: VIZYON ATISTIK | Rasin San Bout | Roots Without End

Artists in Dialogue with Sounds of Haiti from the Alan Lomax Archive

Opening Reception and Artist Talk with Gage Averill: Saturday, September 19, 2026 from 6-9pm

Looking forward to participating in the "An Pale" Conversation and opening reception.

My new video collage/movement short Avan / Yè | A conversation - Ayiti, 1937 to Brooklyn, 2026

The work places archival footage/tracks from Alan Lomax's 1936-1937 recordings in rural Ayiti alongside contemporary movement created and performed by Maxine Montilus and myself in the heart of the Little Caribbean neighborhood in Brooklyn. Drawing from Rada dance traditions, danse Martinique, and contemporary movement practices, the video asks what becomes possible when bodies separated by nearly ninety years share the same visual and sonic space.

The Haitian spirit and deep connection to our cultureĀ is stillĀ alive and well in the diaspora. We honor those who came before us on our ancestral soil andĀ take upĀ space in the place we call home.Ā

Directed by: Marie Casimir
Movement: Marie Casimir & Maxine Montilus

Looking forward to the further development of Lakansyèl and taking it to New Orleans with our beautiful group of talented musicians, dancers and visual artsits.

Ā Tickets: Link in bio

Presented by Instigation Festival in Partnership with Cultural Ties FestivalĀ

LakansyeĢ€lĀ (Haitian KreyoĢ€l for ā€œrainbowā€) is a speculative performance collage inspired by Lumane Casimir, Haiti’s first female guitarist and a radiant, groundbreaking artist of the 1940s–50s. Through music, movement, voice, and image,Ā LakansyeĢ€lĀ reimagines the cultural revolution that might have emerged had Lumane’s life not been cut short, where her brilliance and Black Caribbean imagination not only survived but flourished."Rooted in collective dreaming and radical imagination, the work reclaims freedom as an unfolding experiment, not a fixed prize. Through echoes of memory and flashes of futurism, it envisions a world where Black womanist resistance reverberates beyond time, and the future remains a space of possibility.
