Coming very soon 💙 The funky + squishy emotional support pillow that my inner child has always dreamt of 🥹✨

Back in April, I had a vision for these soft sculptures inspired by organic shapes I’ve played with for years. I wanted people to be able to hold them while experiencing my room at @hospital.of.emotions.

With SO many moving parts for the installation, I leaned on my community and brought the designs to my talented friend @breathlesssmahoney to help me bring them to life. She shipped them to LA, where I found myself stuffing them one by one at 4am lol.

Little did I know that 2 days later, I’d be sitting in the middle of my room having an anxiety attack, and the one thing that helped calm me down was hugging one of my pillows. I felt immediate comfort from being held by one of my own shapes 🥹 And then it clicked. I realized these could be more than soft sculptures.

I started sharing them with other artists who were also stressed from installing, inviting them to pause for a moment and cuddle with one. Seeing the instant smiles on their faces made me realize there was something special here. 💙

For the last 3 months, I’ve been developing these into something I can finally share with you. After letting friends test them out (and having so many ask if they could have one 😭), I’m officially launching my emotional support pillows this fall! 🫶🏼💫

After a 3-year break from large-scale sculptures and immersive installations, I’m back in it 👀

Big creatures are taking over my studio again 🌀🙌🏼
Currently deep in production for a new installation inside an abandoned hospital in LA with @hospital.of.emotions 🎉

I’ll be showing the process behind this one over the next few weeks. I’m super grateful to the sculpture mastermind @salvadorthepainter for all his help making these alebrijes come to life! 💫 taken in Dallas, Texas by @mariellguzman

Earlier this year, @makersmark invited me and 2 iconic texas tastemakers to help craft the Texas edition of its State Series. I was very intrigued by how I could contribute as a visual artist and translate my own memories, emotions and lived experiences growing up in Texas into an iconic flavor 🥃❤️‍🔥

When @makersmark Master Distiller Blake Layfield asked me how I envisioned the taste of Texas, 2 key concepts came to mind.

1. The word “expansive” immediately popped into my mind, inspired by many memories of traveling across the state and taking in the vastness of the open landscapes and enormous skies. I shared how I imagined the bourbon having that same feeling of endlessly unfolding with bold flavor as you experience it.
2. The feeling Texas sunsets give me 🌅 Throughout various phases of my life, the sunsets have been a constant source of awe and immense warmth as they wrap me in their stunning gradients. I’ve felt that same warmth from the people who have welcomed me and made Texas feel like home as an immigrant from Mexico. I wanted the bourbon to carry that same feeling.

Visiting the distillery at Star Hill Farm added a whole new layer of inspiration. It’s tucked deep within the forest near the water. I loved learning how intentionally nature is treated as a collaborator in the process, from the red winter wheat and water to the American white oak barrels.

I’m beyond honored to have had a seat at the table to share my memories, creativity and perspective alongside an inspiring group of Texas Tastemakers. It’s finally out in the world, and we can’t wait for you to experience it! 🙌🏼

The @makersmark State Series Texas Edition is now available across Texas while supplies last!

Challenge: Transform the @amphibianstage in 2 days for this year’s @sparkfestfwtx 🎭🌀🎉

I remember learning about David Hockney’s experimental stage designs with various stage productions and hoping I’d have the chance to explore this someday. It was a joy to have the @amphibianstage lend me their stage as a playground to create a colorful dancing party.

Thank you for the opportunity to collaborate for such a cool festival!

And as always, thank you @marilyn.inzunza for the amazing assist! 🌸 taken in Amphibian Stage by @mariellguzman
