Experiencing running through the eyes of teenagers is empowering. The goals they set, the questions they ask, the inspiration they create and the bonds forged are exactly how I fell in love with this sport in the first place.

It was an honor to speak at the @playmakerssummit2026 - the brainchild of @dacoachms , spending time with a room full of girls who are already shaping what leadership looks like.

My session, Leading From Within, focused on a simple but powerful idea: leadership isn’t one-size-fits-all. Every girl in that room already has what she needs to lead in her own way—it starts by leaning into her uniqueness.

We talked about:
•Redefining leadership beyond titles
•Recognizing strengths
•Small acts have big impacts
•How to evolve as a leader
•Use Love Languages to reach your teammates.

Because when girls understand that who they are is exactly what makes them impactful, everything changes.

I’m excited to build on this talk this summer at some @wildwoodrunningpdx Hometowns!

My favorite event is this weekend! @wildwoodrunningpdx started the Wildwood Miles for girls and women out of pure love for the sport.

This meet originated as an all-comers meet, a space for everyone no matter their pace, age or goals! All-comers meets were my first introduction to the sport. The 80s and 90s were filled with moments of being on the track with people of all ages & abilities loving the sport.

This version has girls lining up with women, first timers and competitive runners empowering one another, where the 4:40 miler and the 8:00 miler feel seen and supported.

A space where my neurodivergent daughter can stand on the line and feel part of something bigger than herself.

This year we’ll have over 400 girls + women lining up to celebrate this beautiful sport and going after some big goals. The infield will be loud & memories will be made.

The community miles celebrate everyone - young girls, women who haven’t run the mile since PE class, friends running together and moms & daughter stride for stride, like Elise & I.

The competitive heats start every ten minutes. Girls and women lining up with others who have similar goals. Running together to see what they can accomplish!

NEW year, NEW Conversations ✨💫
Is 2026 the year you’ll focus on having real and honest conversations with your girls?

🧠 Girls Talk Workshop
🗓️ Sunday, February 1, 2026 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET
💻 Virtual session with recording

This 1.5 hour virtual session will set you up to launch your own Girls Talk in your athletic program. Although Marie Davis Markham is a running coach, this program will work for any sports team. Over 35 years of running experience, coaching high schoolers and 23 years as an educator has helped @mariemarkham create a system that will work for any coach or team leader.

This session will support your work to bring big and important conversations to your team but will focus on having the athletes do the talking. Afterall, giving them a safe place to process their individual journey is imperative.

During this session, Marie will share:
💡Why Girls Talks are important to implement in all programs
💡A lesson plan with a template that can be used for any topic
💡Key things to look out for and think through
💡The positives that come from Girls Talk
💡How to communicate with parents regarding Girls Talk
💡Resources to keep the Girls Talks going over time.

COACH ELISE ❤️🤍 Tonight, Elise started her coaching career with the 6th grade Lady Cards! Thanks to head coach, Lincoln alum and Elise’s aunt, @anniedavisusher for bringing her on staff!

I’m so lucky Elise has people in her world loving her for who she is! Having Special Olympics is incredible for Elise‘s development in sport but participating in sports with Neurotypical kids is also incredibly important for her development!

I think we’re starting to find that balance, and it feels pretty amazing.

After the game, we hopped in the car and the first thing she said was, “I’m freaking out!” She felt important. She felt seen. She felt loved by the team. And she even got to lead a team cheer!

Deep down, I also believe those 6th grade girls will learn something from Elise! by @mariemarkham
