I’ve shared a little about what Marigold is. This is why it exists. In 2021, I was diagnosed with melanoma. I was one of the lucky people who caught it early. After that, my relationship with the sun changed. Covering my skin wasn’t really optional anymore — but I wasn’t ready to give up the things I loved either. I still wanted long Australian summers. I still wanted days at the beach or pool. I still wanted to swim. And, perhaps unsurprisingly, I still wanted to look chic doing it. I started looking for swimwear that gave me more coverage and UPF 50+ protection, but still felt like something I would choose to wear. I wanted beautiful colours. Flattering shapes. Thoughtful details. Something that felt more fashion than functional. I couldn’t find it. And somewhere along the way, “surely someone should make this” became “maybe I should make this.” That was the beginning of Marigold. This brand is deeply personal to me, but I don’t want it to be a story about being afraid of the sun. It’s about enjoying our beautiful Australian summers a little more thoughtfully. And about believing that covering up and dressing beautifully should never have been mutually exclusive in the first place. So I’m making the swimwear I went looking for.
