World Standards Day 2026 | “Shared Vision for a Better World”

On World Standards Day 2026, MARii recognises the vital role of standards in fostering innovation, strengthening industry competitiveness and supporting the sustainable development of Malaysia’s automotive sector.

As the automotive industry continues to evolve, standards provide a common foundation for the adoption of emerging technologies and the development of a safer, more efficient and future-ready mobility ecosystem. In supporting the advancement of the National Automotive Policy (NAP) 2020, standards development includes areas such as Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) Standards, which focus on sales-weighted average fuel economy targets across a manufacturer’s entire vehicle sales fleet, and Next Generation Vehicle (NGV) Standards, which support the development and testing of autonomous vehicle technologies.

In the area of electric mobility, MARii and Jabatan Standard Malaysia (JSM) are also working together on MS 2818:2025 Battery Passport, supporting the development of a standardised framework for battery information, traceability and transparency across the EV battery lifecycle.

From vehicle efficiency and autonomous mobility to battery traceability, these efforts reflect the importance of shared standards in enabling industry, government and stakeholders to move forward with a shared vision for a better world.

Advancing Low-Carbon Mobility Through Research and Innovation

At IGEM 2026, MARii’s research leads and team shared insights from ongoing studies under “Accelerating the Adoption and Scale-up of Climate-Smart Transport in Malaysia” (AASCT), a UNIDO–GEF-7 initiative involving MGTC and MARii, with Perodua as an industry partner.

Participating in the Pocket Talk sessions themed “New Technologies in Low Carbon Mobility” were Norazrinawati Kamaruddin, Shafinaz Azmi, Ts. Mohd Zubir Abdullah, Qamarul Hafiz, Muhammad Hafiz Zakaria and Muhammad Amzar Danish.

The presentations highlighted renewable energy-based smart charging and EV charging harmonisation, Vehicle-to-Microgrid (V2MG) integration through the *Zero Emission Vehicle Interoperability Centre (ZEVIC)*, development of a national EV and sustainable battery ecosystem roadmap, and EV battery remanufacturing.

These ongoing studies connect technology development with testing, validation, standards and policy recommendations supporting a more integrated ecosystem for zero-emission mobility and sustainable battery management across the lifecycle, from vehicle use to remanufacturing, second-life applications and recycling.

Through collaborative research and industry engagement, MARii continues to translate knowledge into practical pathways towards Malaysia’s low-carbon mobility transition.
