🇨🇵 Une semaine intense et particulièrement enrichissante, consacrée à la pratique historique de l’interprétation, aux styles d’archet, au portamento et à l’étude des enregistrements historiques avec le Pr. Clive Brown.
Nous avons travaillé des quatuors de Schubert, Mendelssohn, Beethoven, Haydn et Stamitz. L’expertise de Clive Brown nous a permis d’approfondir notre approche de ces répertoires, de developper notre interprétation et d’ouvrir de nouvelles pistes de recherche et d’expérimentation pour les années à venir.
Nous avons également eu l’occasion de poursuivre nos recherches en nous rendant dans plusieurs bibliothèques à Vienne et de consulter leur incroyables collections : manuscrits, premières éditions et tant d'autres ressources qui malgrés notre monde moderne ne sont pas disponibles en ligne.

🇬🇧 What an intense and enriching week, immersed in performance practice, bowing styles, portamento and historical recordings with Prof. Clive Brown.
We worked on movements from quartets by Schubert, Mendelssohn, Beethoven, Haydn and Stamitz. Clive Brown’s expertise allowed us to deepen our approach to this repertoire, develop our interpretations and open up new avenues of research and experimentation for the years to come.
We also greatly benefited from visiting libraries in Vienna, where we had the opportunity to consult manuscripts and first editions that are not available online.
You will be able to hear the results of all of this soon !

Aujourd'hui, début de notre résidence à Vienne, en Autriche ❤️ Une merveilleuse aventure autour des quatuors de Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Weiss et Stamitz, accompagnée par l’expertise du musicologue Clive Brown.

Nous sommes tellement honorés de passer une semaine avec ce grand musicologue, qui a marqué nos années d’études. Merci au financement européen « Culture Moves Europe » et au Goethe-Institut, sans qui tout cela n’aurait pas été possible.

Nous sommes chanceux et vivons pleinement notre rêve de « quatuor laboratoire » 😍

Today marks the beginning of our residency in Vienna, Austria ❤️ A wonderful adventure exploring the quartets of Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Weiss and Stamitz, guided by the expertise of musicologist Clive Brown.

We are truly honored to spend a week with this great musicologist, whose work has had such an important influence on our musical education. A huge thank you to the European funding programme “Culture Moves Europe” and the Goethe-Institut, without whom none of this would have been possible.

We feel incredibly lucky to be living our dream of a “laboratory string quartet” 😍

Come celebrate the winter season with us! ❄️

On December 6 at 18:00, we’ll be at O-Ton Köln (@o_ton.koeln ) with our Winter Concert “Is it tradition?”

The Alafia’s Winter Celebration Playlist brings together winter traditions from different places… a hint of Nutcracker, a little Mozart, some John Williams sparkle, melodies from the countries and cultures within our ensemble, and much more!

And of course, to keep us warm: there’ll be ✨Glühwein✨

It’s been a while since our last post… but we’re still here! 👋

Between organising an independent ensemble and preparing new projects, time tends to disappear rather quickly. And when your instrumentation has very little original repertoire written for it, creating programmes often means arranging, adapting, and sometimes even rediscovering music from scratch.

This little glimpse comes from a rehearsal for tomorrow’s concert, featuring music by Paul Preis. It has been a real joy to work on this commission and, once again, dive into the music of such a remarkable composer!

We’re looking forward to sharing it with you✨

Hace un tiempo que no publicamos nada… ¡pero seguimos por aquí! 👋

Entre la organización de un ensemble autogestionado y la preparación de nuevos proyectos, el tiempo pasa más rápido de lo que nos gustaría. Y cuando apenas existe repertorio original para nuestra formación, crear programas implica arreglar, adaptar y a veces, redescubrir música desde cero!

Este pequeño fragmento es de uno de nuestros ensayos para el concierto de mañana, con música de Paul Preis. Ha sido una alegría trabajar en este encargo y volver a sumergirnos en la música de un compositor tan especial!

Es ist eine Weile her seit unserem letzten Beitrag… aber uns gibt es noch! 👋

Zwischen der Organisation eines selbstverwalteten Ensembles und der Vorbereitung neuer Projekte vergeht die Zeit oft schneller als gedacht. Und wenn es für unsere Besetzung kaum Originalliteratur gibt, bedeutet die Programmgestaltung oft auch: arrangieren, bearbeiten und Musik neu entdecken.

Dieser kleine Einblick stammt aus einer Probe für das morgige Konzert mit Musik von Paul Preis. Es war uns eine große Freude, an diesem Auftrag zu arbeiten und erneut in die Musik dieses wunderbaren Komponisten einzutauchen!

After weeks of preparation, it’s finally happening.
We’re thrilled to be part of the Antón García Abril International Chamber Music Competition @concursoantongarciaabril , especially alongside so many incredible musicians.

The preliminary round begins at 9:15, and we will take the stage at 20:15 ‼️
