Thorn is a small village in the Dutch province of Limburg ...🇳🇱... .

Founded as a nunnery in the 10th century Thorn was governed by women for nearly 800 years.

The houses are white because the residents tried to hide the mismatched patchwork of bricked up windows.
When the French invaders arrived (1794) they imposed a property tax based on the number and size of the windows of the houses, so people walled them up.

Casa la Barca in Bussana Vecchia 🇮🇹 is a famous, free-spirited community and open-house space where travelers, creatives and free-thinkers can stay some time for free while helping, participating, sharing.

Bussana Vecchia 🇮🇹 is a medieval former ghost town in Liguria, Italy, 25 km from the French border.
It was abandoned due to an earthquake in 1887, then partially renovated and repopulated by a community of artists in the 1960s.
Today it is a home to a small group of local inhabitants and international artists, there are a few craft shops and cafes.

Most photos were taken in June, the others in April 2019 and November 2023 during my earlier visits.
