this fall marks four years since the start of marine eyes. i’m grateful for beginning this project and have learned endless amounts about community, dedication, passion, facing fears and of course, frequencies (with the best teacher in @jamesbernard). i’m also in constant amazement at the beautiful music + art so many of you are making which teaches me too, just had to say it doesn’t go unnoticed.

i’m excited to share some
new sounds with you in just a few weeks! and there’s a lot in motion including a blissful collaboration, more solo works early next year + new additions to @cloud__collecting ☁️

there are more women making ambient music than you think…

5 years ago, when i began making my own ambient music, i also started a mix series highlighting women in ambient and i’ve never run out of new artists to feature. ambient isn’t a male dominated genre, there just needs to be more focus put on the women and gender expansive artists who have been making it for decades. so i decided to keep sharing mixes online, and curated a compilation via @pastinside in 2022 featuring 23 women artists, to starting my own newsletter and community @cloud__collecting with short interviews, mixes + a focus of shining a light on women + gender expansive artists.

cloud collecting is now becoming a label, with a new compilation, gentle voices vol. 1, out this friday for international women’s day, featuring 20 women artists from around the world. each track features two women artists paired together, collaborating to highlight their unique strengths and i curated the compilation with another woman ambient artist who is equally as passionate about this as me, @anita_tatlow, co-founder of @echoesblue.

i hope you love gentle voices as much as i do and on this international women’s day, lift women artists up, help them know their voices matter.

Named after a beach in Southern California which evokes childhood memories…

“Time spent there holds my first real memories of the ocean, watching sunsets along the shore, being mesmerized by the colors of the waves and ocean plants, and spending days playing with my sisters, parents and extended family. Within the song, I incorporated field recordings from a home video filmed there where you can hear my sisters and me, with ocean waves in the distance. I also wanted to capture the nostalgic and dreamlike feeling of these early ocean memories” ~ @marineeyes

In A Small Room, Decades Ago

During the 1990’s rave scene, the chill out room was where you would go to unwind and expand your mind to electronic music that wasn’t meant for the dancefloor.

While lying on your back you could hear downtempo, dub, ambient, IDM, spoken word mantras and psychedelic tunes all mixed into one sonic journey.

Soaking in all those new sounds is what inspired me to want to create my own music (Atmospherics -1994) and add to the conversation.

Fast forward to 2026 and now chill out rooms are being re-discovered and revived in the electronic music scene for those seeking something different than the pounding energetic beats of modern electronic music.

For my new album I wanted to write a sort of love letter to those chill out rooms, and give my interpretation of the variety of sounds they championed. From the dubbed out grooves of ‘Acid Ocean’ (featuring my incredible wife @marineeyes on vocals) to the tribal/acid/idm pulse of the title track, this album gives a taste of what it was like to be ‘In A Small Room, Decades Ago’

happy birthday to @jamesbernard, my love, creative partner and teacher, daily comedian, adventure sidekick even willing to wake at sunrise with me, and my all-time favorite person to photograph.

i’m in awe of james daily—in the care he shows me and our kids, the love he pours into his creativity and work and his willingness to be who he is at all times.

he has an album coming out next week via @pastinside, i even got to do the cover art and sing on a song. it shows his many musical sides, all of which move my heart 🤍

Exactly five years ago today, zakè (@zake_drone) and marine eyes (@marineeyes) brought the world their debut collaborative record, Unfailing Love, a journey through grief, resilience, compassion, and the quiet power of the human spirit.

With Still Beauty, Zach Frizzell and Cynthia Bernard continue the story where they left off, presenting a suite of lovingly constructed pieces that pair organic, tape saturated drones with angelic vocals and other deeply nuanced textures.

Building on the hushed promises of their 2021 debut, the two artists move through loss, renewal, and the fragile persistence of light, finding precious beauty even after hardship.

Balanced between hope and melancholy, Still Beauty casts a spell of kindness and care, carrying the listener through overlapping shadows into a place of deeper clarity, tenderness, and peace.

i’ve been a longtime admirer of italian vocalist, composer, and multimedia artist jolanda moletta so it was a joy to ask her a few questions following her release of oceanine via @beacon_sound. she also appears on the recently released @cloud__collecting x @echoesblue compilation gentle voices, vol. 1 collaborating with @birdsofpassagemusic. jolanda’s work channels imagination, nature, hope, and she is always uplifting women’s voices, it was due time to have her on cc. i highly recommend diving into her catalog.
