What can material reveal that words cannot?

Meet Marita in In Dialogue, Artiste Culture’s conversation series exploring the ideas, questions, and experiences that shape creative practice.

Through her perspective, we invite you to consider the relationship between material, process, and the ideas that give creative work its meaning. Because a practice is not only about what we make, but also about what we discover along the way.

Join us for a conversation that opens up new ways of thinking about art, making, and creative exploration.

📅 Date: 23rd October
🕒 Time: 4:30 PM IST

Be part of the dialogue. We look forward to having you with us!

Thank you @publico.pt 🤍
It was really a pleasure talking about what I love to do and how everything is connected in my work.
What a nice talk transformed in a very nice interview by @carinices and the beautiful photos by @jpaulopimenta

✨ The Echoes of Things from Nature ✨

We are pleased to invite you to discover The Echoes of Things from Nature, a solo presentation by Portuguese artist Marita Setas Ferro, presented by the European Cultural Centre Italy (@ecc_italy ) as part of the Personal Structures Biennale 2026 in Venice.

From May 9 to November 22, 2026, the exhibition unveils a series of sculptural works where textile and ceramic merge in a unique material dialogue. Handcrafted crochet, made from vintage and surplus threads, intertwines with hand-shaped and kiln-fired ceramics, creating hybrid forms inspired by marine life and organic structures.

Between softness and density, flexibility and permanence, the works evoke corals, shells, and anemones—exploring the fragile balance of natural ecosystems. Through this fusion of traditional techniques and contemporary sculptural language, the exhibition invites a sensory and tactile experience, reflecting on resilience, regeneration, and ecological awareness.

A poetic encounter between craft and sculpture, nature and memory.

Behind every wall, there is a pair of hands. 🤍

Before Wearable Art – What Is 3rd Skin opened at MUDE, each piece arrived in its box, was documented, checked against its condition report and unpacked following the artist’s own indications. Pieces made to live on the body ask for even more care.

And when the exhibition closed, we did it all again in reverse: checking, wrapping and sending each work on its way as safely as it came.

To exhibit is, above all, to take care.

Thank you to the artists: @astumpf_jewelry , @armin_najib , @carla_m_jewellery , @henar_iglesias , @joanasantosjewellery , @lidijakolovrat , @nasimjavid.studio @nouraalserkal , @olganoronha__official , @taibe.palacios and @valentimquaresma .

I had the privilege of curating the exhibition “Wearable Art – What Is 3rd Skin”, presented by Double J collective Gallery, came to life at MUDE - Museu do Design e da Moda, as part of Moda Lisboa.
Now that the exhibition has closed, I keep coming back to how lucky I am to work in this field.
It lets me come close to artists: their thoughts, their sensibilities, the way they see the world, and above all why they see it that way. In wearable art, that closeness is almost literal. The work lives on the body, as a second skin, a third skin, a threshold between the self and the world.
Curating is often seen only in its visible form: the exhibition, the wall text, the arrangement of works in space. Behind it lies artistic knowledge, art historical references, and advanced conceptual thinking. But knowledge alone is never enough. It also takes emotional intelligence and real sensitivity, not only towards the works, but above all towards the artists: how they work, how they perceive reality, and how much depth lives inside everything they make.
A work is never just an object. It is the trace of a process, a body of experience, a way of being in the world. To curate is to listen with attention, to honour that depth, and to create the conditions for it to be seen.
My deepest thanks to the artists who shared their work and their vision:
Amanda Stumpf
Armin Najib
Carla Matos
Henar Iglesias
Joana Santos
Lidija Kolovrat
Nasim Javid
Noura Alserkal
Olga Noronha
Taibe Palacios
Valentim Quaresma
Thank you also to the Double J Collective team, to MUDE, and to Moda Lisboa for making space for this conversation between art, fashion, and the body.
Bringing new thought into visibility is a privilege I never take for granted.

Time moves differently when we work on what we love. It stops being measured in hours and becomes measured in attention. ⏳

Leaving the familiar ground is not a rupture but an expansion. Each new material opens a different space of encounter, where our habits are questioned and our language as makers is rewritten.

Textile is a quiet, structured thinking: thread by thread, a steady and cumulative gesture. Ceramics answers with another temperament. It is stronger, more volatile, and shaped by fire, which no one fully controls. Between the two lies a productive tension, between patience and risk, control and surrender.

This is what draws us to a medium: the possibility of going further than what we already know how to say. Every artist is, in the end, looking for the material that can hold what they have not yet been able to express.

Which material challenges you to go further? 👇

Beginning with a question, creating space for distinct practices to intersect, challenge perspectives, and open new ways of thinking. Rather than presenting fixed positions, In Dialogue invites audiences into the processes through which artists observe, make, reconsider, and respond to the world around them.

Edition 1: What Remains?
How do artists make visible the changes happening around us?

Join us on 23 October 2026, at 4:30 PM IST, for an online conversation featuring Marita Setas Ferro, Laura Reeder, Damon Kowarsky, Nof Nathansohn, and Carlos Andrés Ramírez López. Together, they will explore the intersections of observation, material, memory, and place, asking what persists, what disappears, and what becomes visible through artistic practice.

Interested in joining the conversation? Register via the link in our bio. The online meeting link will be shared with registered participants via email.

We look forward to welcoming you to the first edition of In Dialogue With Artiste Culture. by @maritaferro
