“Com o desenvolvimento do meu olhar de diretora de fotografia durante mais de 30 anos trabalhando em cinema, busco os detalhes geométricos, a estética, a paleta de cor, a distorção do movimento da água. São retratos da arquitetura em movimento, tendo a água como simbolismo, o geométrico, o neoconcreto. O olhar simétrico em primeiro plano. As linhas em movimento. As distorções através da simetria. Percebo também a memória do lugar, tempo, pessoas, religião, fé, batismo, purificação, união, limpeza.”

Desde 2012, Maritza Caneca desenvolve um corpo de obras centrado principalmente em piscinas, espaços de suspensão e imersão, que se tornam campos visuais para explorar tempo, memória e percepção, entre o rigor formal e a delicadeza sensível do gesto fotográfico.

Caneca construiu uma trajetória consistente no circuito internacional, com exposições individuais no Brasil e Estados Unidos. Destacam-se mostras como “Pool Series” na Bossa Gallery em Miami em 2016, “New Work” no Bakehouse Art Complex em 2018 e “Immersion in Blue” no Belmond Copacabana Palace em 2017. Premiada pela Associação Brasileira de Fotografia Cinematográfica e outras instituições, sua obra reafirma um percurso que transita entre cinema, fotografia e instalação, consolidando uma pesquisa visual reconhecida pela precisão técnica e pela força poética. by @maritzacaneca

Maritza Caneca is a Miami-based visual artist working primarily with photography. Her practice explores the geometry and reflections of swimming pools through multimedia installations, video, tiles, cyanotypes, and painting. Since 2014, she has focused on pools as a recurring subject, exhibiting at Paço Imperial during the 2016 Olympic Games and intervening at the Copacabana Palace Hotel pool in 2017. In 2025, her work is featured in Pool Party: The Pool in American Art at the Mennello Museum of American Art. Caneca has received multiple Miami Individual Artists Grants and is currently an artist in residence at the Bakehouse Art Complex. by @maritzacaneca
