POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Obligatory ESA-sign photo I guess.

I got the amazing opportunity to join a few colleagues from @ororatech on a visit to @europeanspaceagency ESRIN in Frascati/Rome ✨

We were shown around the Φ-Experience (google phi-experience!), a data viz exhibit where the whole story how we get from satellite to usable data is displayed in a very interactive and impressive manner. And there is even OroraTech data on display! Obviously I did not have anything to do with that but the amazing people working with me.
ESRIN has some sort of open(ish) day on every last friday of the month if you want to visit! (Needs some preregistration I think)

And yes, 36°C and long trousers was a bit of a struggle but I survived (barely)… 🫠

Rome was as amazing as last time I visited, back in the day, with @christopherklaus - those were good days, good memories! taken in European Space Agency ESA-ESRIN (Frascati) by @marius__schuller

Hi it’s me again!

Short report about the last weekend where I attended my second advanced miniature painting workshop from @romanlappat.miniatureart (together with the wife @miniature_lea), and it was just as amazing as the first!

After three of the big workshops from this amazing teacher now (beginner, first advanced, and this one), something important is sinking in: I really don’t thrive in workshop settings because I’m always super careful with everything I touch and constantly afraid of messing things up, even though it never actually happened. For some reason, I just can’t seem to internalize that it’s okay to be bold 😭 (I really need to try these roman lappat sound effects™, iykyk)

And I definitely didn’t help myself by again choosing a sort of ambitious scene: a baker with an outdoor oven. My goal was to try a few things I never attempted before: Grass and trees in the diorama as well as painting a backdrop!

The pressure was real when people started finishing their pieces on the last day and I realized and I still had 3+ hours of work ahead of me at the end of the day. But the other participants were incredibly skilled and fast and genuinely supportive and inspiring. And Roman? I don’t know how much flattery I can put in here but he was again absolutely fantastic. Imagine me using every superlative out there to describe this amazing human being! He even offered to help me push through and actually finish this (for me) challenging workshop piece. The result you see here now.
Despite the struggle, I learned so much and had an absolute blast. Often growth comes from biting off more than you can chew and having amazing people around to help you figure it out.

On the bright side: I won the luck-based game for the THIRD time in across all my workshops! 😅 Going forward, I’ll participate out of competition! Seriously, I’d happily trade all that game luck for some actual painting skill!

Massive, massive respect to everyone’s work that was created over just one weekend! The talent in that room was unreal.

(Last image: the historical photo that inspired my piece)

First time using an airbrush. Cuts the time to basecoat a dragon tenfold in comparison to a brush for me (yes I… did that… once).

Kinda nice, especially if you don’t have to be super exact! The colors have been purely @scale75 ScaleColor Artist Inks (Inkside out and Game of Inks 75, 80 and 73).

I'm going to end the work on Karlach here. I have learned much while painting her and I had so much fun and stressed about way too much. There would be so much more to do. The glowing heart! The hair, the trousers, all her tattoos and the axe. But I think it is time to stop and take the win, as I kinda like it, where it is now. I need more experience before attempting more difficult painting topics like that.

The model is from @ca.3d.studios (printed in 1/24 by @oliver_spaeth of Honourguard at Etsy).

So, we had the chance to swing by at @romanlappat.miniatureart and meet @miniacal_ 🙌🏻

Thanks for making the time! (Of course I had to wear the miniac shirt!)

They’re on their way to @montesansavino_show (probably already there!). Hope the muffins helped you on the road 🧁😋 taken in Augsburg, Germany by @marius__schuller

Mini: Valfuryx (Reaper Mini, Bones 5 KS)

Since I can’t finish or be mostly happy with any mini I’m starting or “finishing”, here goes the next iteration of the same story.
But I’m still motivated by the unbelievably good Advanced Workshop by @romanlappat.miniatureart I attended a few weeks back now. Thank you once more for everything you are doing, it is a joy seeing a master work and teach and I think I’m learning (in super slow-mo, but still).

So why not start another mini, the likes of which I have never attempted before? Lile, huge mini. This time at least @miniature_lea helped my to make a plan that is supposed to help me not lose my way to the end….

Lets fuck around and find out! Maybe one day I understand what #happypainting feels like 😂
