-------------------------------------------

Summer has only just ended, and the first winter targets are already waiting for us in the early morning sky.

So yeah… set the alarm, grab some coffee, and go.

Two early mornings, just over 2 hours of data on M45 — the Pleiades — with the Dwarf Mini.

Small in size, but pretty impressive what this little Dwarf Mini can pull out of the sky.

And this is only the beginning. Orion, the Rosette Nebula, and the rest of the winter favourites are on their way back.

Cold, coffee, stars, and go. Just the way it should be.

Cepheus is filled with interstellar dust, and one of its most fascinating regions is the Wolf’s Cave Nebula complex.

This image features vdB 152 and the dark nebula Barnard 175 (LDN 1217). The blue glow of vdB 152 is caused by starlight from BD +69 1231 reflecting off the surrounding dust, while parts of the region also show a faint reddish glow from Extended Red Emission.

In the lower-right corner you can even find the extremely faint planetary nebula Dengel-Hartl 5 (PK 111+11.1).

I spent many nights capturing this target, ending up with a total of 49 hours of exposure time: 30 hours with the L-Quad filter and 19 hours with the L-Ultimate.

Equipment:
William Optics Megrez 110ED
Sky-Watcher EQ6-R Pro
ZWO ASI071MC Pro
N.I.N.A. + PHD2

In spring, the Milky Way reveals a completely different side of itself.

Later in the year, it rises high and almost vertically across the sky, but in spring it stretches low along the horizon. That was exactly the moment I wanted to capture.

On April 22, I photographed this Milky Way arch over the IJsselmeer, created from multiple panels.

A river of stars, gently curving above the horizon as night slowly gives way to dawn.

NGC 7000 & Friends 🌌

The North America Nebula may steal the spotlight, but it's the friends around it that complete the picture. High in the summer sky, in the constellation Cygnus, this remains one of my favorite regions of the Milky Way.

Clear skies! ✨

The Sun in Hydrogen Alpha 🌞

During the Dutch National Solar Observation Day on July 5, fellow astrophotographer and chairman of Stichting Sterrenwacht Saturnus, Paul Volman, suggested that we take advantage of the next sunny day to photograph the sun with the observatory's Coronado SolarMax 60mm telescope. Astrophotographer Mark Bossen and I immediately loved the idea. All we had to do was wait for a sunny Saturday afternoon, and as luck would have it, the focast was great for next weekend!

On Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 2:00 PM, the time had come. Mark, Paul, Hans, and I were ready with the Coronado telescope and two cameras. The observatory's Player One cooled mono camera and my own ZWO ASI224MC. Our solar expert, Paul, who has been photographing the Sun since 2011, explained how to use the telescope and shared the techniques needed to capture detailed solar images.

Thanks to Paul's guidance, we managed to capture this image, showing not only the Sun's surface with a lot detail but also the prominences extending beyond the solar limb. A huge thank you to Paul for an enjoyable and educational day. This is definitely something we'll be doing again!

Acquisition details:

2-panel mosaic
- Panel 1: 45% of 1,000 frames stacked
- Panel 2: 72% of 1,000 frames stacked
