‘he learned about house music before the genre had a name, and at the time he wasn’t even out of grade school.’ 🤚🏼🫗🫗🫗🫗🫗🫗🫗🫗🫗🫗🫗🫗🫗🫗🫗🫗✋🏼 @mark_grusane started DJing at age 8 with his older brother in Chicago. By 16 he was playing in bars and nightclubs, giving him close to 30 years of experience behind the decks. ‘at age 16, he began contacting record stores across the country trying to track down unfamiliar music. “What I would do is go downtown to the main library and get phone books for different cities, and just call the stores at random until I could find somebody and gain a relationship with them,”’ ‘in 2004 he opened Mr. Peabody Records, creating a brick-and-mortar outlet for his skill at finding and selling vinyl.’ Quickly becoming one of the most popular and influential record shops in Chicago, the store also gained attention overseas. ‘“We’d been shipping records overseas for a lot of these guys that do compilations—a lot of times the records end up on the compilations, but we wouldn’t get any credit,” Grusane says. “They’d be thanking people, but they wouldn’t thank us. Still recovering from the madness of DISCOvery Weekender #2 last weekend… 🪩❤️ Here are some of my favorite moments, in no particular order, from 2 days, 24 hours of music, and some of the best people to do it So much talent. So much great music. So many beautiful souls. And SO much dancing. Honestly, I’m still on a cloud. It’s been intense putting together a gathering like this, but seeing our community come together made every bit of it worth it. DJs, dancers, diggers, music lovers… we’re all there for the same reasons: our love for the groove, the music, the people, and being one big family. ❤️ I can’t thank you all enough for bringing your energy, your music and your love to these two days. And a huge thank you to the @djoonclub team for giving us the space and freedom to express ourselves and make this happen. What I do know during my life travels, All of our relationships and people we meet through out are special. They are also infinite. Everyone has a place in our travels and navigation.
